  2. Title I think that the poem Bearing the Stigmata will be about a man who has done something wrong in his past and he wants to make everything better again.

  3. Paraphrase The poem Bearing the Stigmata is about a black man who has aids and has committed the crime of adultery. He goes to church so he can be forgiven for what he has done. He goes up to communion, feeling humiliated, and every one stares at him because they know what he has done. Once he goes back to him pew Jesus comes off the cross and walks towards him.

  4. Connotation Stigmata- A mark of disgrace or infamy. Bearing- The manner in which one conducts or carries oneself. Condemnation- The act of condemning. Condemned- To express an unfavorable or adverse judgment on something. Chancel- The space about the altar of a church. Symbol. Blood=wine Repetition- The word condemned came up a lot. Tone- Sad and depressing.

  5. Attitude Speakers Attitude- We think that the speakers attitude is that he feels ashamed for what he has done in the past and he wants to make it all right. Poets Attitude- We think that the poets attitude is that he thinks that if do something in the past that you won’t be accepted in some places and that you need to fix it.

  6. Shifts There areno shifts. It starts depressing and him feeling ashamed and ends the same way.

  7. Title We think the Title is still the same. He feels ashamed for what he did so he goes to church to try to make everything better once again.

  8. Theme We think the theme of Bearing the Stigmata is that no body is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. But you can always learn from your mistakes and all you can do is try to make them better. Also give everybody a second chance. Don’t hold a grudge because life is too short to hold grudges.
