  1. Module 2 : Using Data to Problem-Solve Implementation Issues Session 3 Phase I Team Training Presented by the MBI Consultants

  2. PHASE I TRAINING MATRIX 1

  3. Objectives • Understand the use of MBI Assessment Tools for action planning • School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET) • Self Assessment Survey (SAS) • Team Implementation Checklist (TIC) • Team Fidelity Inventory (TFI) • Safe Schools Survey (SSS) • Develop team action plans using MBI Assessmentdata and reports

  4. From PBISApps.org.PBIS Assessment Survey System • Complete Surveys • Print charts • Interpret data What are areas that might need attention? -Where are school strengths? List focus areas for action planning. 2

  5. NEWTiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) • Is based on earlier PBIS fidelity surveys (SET, BoQ, TIC, SAS, BAT, MATT) and replaces those measures. • The TFI gives teams a single, efficient, valid, reliable survey to guide implementation and sustained use of SWPBIS. • Using the TFI, teams measure the extent to which school personnel apply the core features of SWPBIS at all three tiers – either individually or collectively 1

  6. NEWTiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) • Purpose of the TFI is to provide an efficient tool for measuring implementation fidelity at all three tiers • The tool is divided into three sections, one for each tier. • Guide for implementation of Tier I, Tier II, and/or Tier III practices • Completed once per quarter until team achieves 80% fidelity across three consecutive administrations • Total Score – Bar Graph • Subscale – Bar Graph • Subsubscale – Bar Graph • Item by item report 1

  7. Introduction to the Safe Schools Survey (SSS) • Help teams determine risk and protective factors for the school • Determine what training and support may be needed related to school safety and violence prevention in the school 1

  8. A Quick Review SAS, TIC, SET

  9. TIC Subscale Report • Designed to monitor the activities of implementation of seven critical features • Progress-monitoring • Results used to plan activities to support and improve the implementation of MBI

  10. School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET): A Tool for Measuring Implementation Fidelity of School-wide Discipline • Measures fidelity of implemented school-wide behavior support systems • Interviews • Observations • Permanent Product Review • Conducted annually

  11. SAS: Total, Subscale, and Individual Scores Items report provides % score for each of the items Total Score reported for each of the four systems Subscale Systems

  12. TFI Reports Generate Reports Similar to the SAS • Sub-subscale • Tier I • Teams • Implementation • Evaluation • Tier II • Teams • Interventions • Evaluation • Tier III • Teams • Resources • Assessment • Support plan • Monitoring and adaptation • Item Report

  13. Safe School Survey Risk Factors 0 2 3 4 5 Protective Factors

  14. Example: Action Planning Using SAS Areas of Strength Areas Not in Place, High Priority for Improvement Distinction between office vs. classroom managed are clear Patterns of student problem behavior are reported to teams and faculty for decision making monthly • Team exists for behavior support and problem solving • School administrationsupports MBI team • Student behavioralexpectations are taught • Booster training activities not developed based on data

  15. Example: Action Planning Using SAS Goal Selected Goal to be added to MBI Action Plan MBI team will present mini-modules on critical features of program at monthly faculty meetings. Topics to include: 1. Teaching behavior lessons 2. Active supervision 3. Redirecting 4. Inappropriate behaviors • Booster training activities are developed for staff based on data.

  16. TIPS II Meeting Minutes and Problem-Solving Action Plan Form 1 Today’s Meeting: Session III MBI TrainingDate, time, location: Facilitator: Minute Taker: Data Analyst: Next Meeting: Date, time, location: Facilitator: Minute Taker: Data Analyst: Team Members (bold are present today________________________________________________________________ Agenda for Today: 1. Analyze TIC and SAS Results to determine current level of implementation . 2 Previously Defined Problems/Solutions (Update) 3 Administrative/General Information and Issues 4 New Problems 4

  17. Activity: Looking at Implementation Data • Log into PBIS Assessments and generate your school’s SAS, SET, and TIC reports)* • What are your area’s of strength? • What are areas that might need attention? • What areas not in place? • High priority for improvement • List focus areas for action planning
