  25. September 19, 2010 Jeff Hulbert St Paul High School 20449 Main Street NE St Paul, OR 97137 Dear Mr. Hulbert: I have always enjoyed sports and all the aspects surrounding them. These range from watching, playing, understanding rules and strategies, and the overall competitive nature of the games. For me enjoying sports has always been in my blood, virtually every member of my extended family is a sports fan and that is just how I grew up. Ever since I can remember my fall weekends have been occupied with watching of going to football games, the big basketball game has always been on the TV, and summers were full of throwing the football and baseball and shooting hoops. Because of my interest in Sports, particularly football and since I already play them year round. I was wondering how I can become even more knowledgeable and improve my understanding for sports? I decided I want to become an aide for Mr. Simmons and help him with coaching the middle school football program. Activities that I would like to participate in with the middle school players consist of taping there games and going over the film to improve technique and understanding of the individual positions. Also to reinforce the skills we go over in the film I would like to invite a couple of the kids to come to the field on a Saturday and go through a series of “mini-camps.” In addition to these ideas I would like to be on the sideline during the games and assist Mr. Simmons in anything he would need, and also teach and manage kids during the game to help the game go more smoothly and give the team a better chance at getting the win. Finally, I would assist Mr. Simmons in any other extra activities he would need help in i.e. gear, field prep, and game preparations. I understand that fraud or presenting something I did not do, as if I did, is illegal. I will do all the work and will not falsify any information concerning my project. I am fully aware that I am responsible for my own actions and will accept any consequences for my not being honest and truthful in any aspect of my project. Sincerely, Daley Smith 19111 River Rd St Paul, OR 97137 ExtendedApplication

  26. March 4, 2011 Re: Recommendation of Daley Smith To Whom It May Concern: It is with great pleasure that I present this well deserved recommendation for Daley Smith. It is generally recognized by teachers and professors that the ultimate recognition of their success is found in the quality of the students that graduate from our educational institutions. Daley Smith exemplifies the highest caliber student and individual that our educational system can produce. I first became acquainted with Daley three years ago as a student teacher for St. Paul High School. At that time, I was impressed not only by his work ethic and his academic achievements, but also the ease in which he interacted with his fellow students. It is rare, during the early formative years of high school, that one sees such a well balanced individual who excels in every facet of high school life. Daley excelled both in the classroom as well as in his extracurricular activities. He was a 4.0 point student as well as a 2-year all-state performer in football, helping the St. Paul Buckaroos win back-to-back state football championships with an unblemished 29-0 record. Though Daley’s academic achievements are significant, it is his personal demeanor that is most impressive. The manner in which he interrelates with his peers while exemplifying a sincere interest in others is given particular note. Fortunately, I have also had the opportunity of knowing Daley’s family who has provided a significant foundation in preparing Daley for life’s challenges. The family’s influence has resulted in a caring and respectful young man. I am confident that Daley will be a success in whatever endeavors he seeks to pursue. I can give no higher recommendation than the one I give this young man. I am certain that he will excel and be a credit and/or asset at any college or university in which he attends. Sincerely, Cam Tharp Letters of Recommendation

  27. Common Application Evaluation Essay for Daley Smith Evaluator: Chris Milliron (Math Teacher, St. Paul High School) Having Daley in my math classes was always a pleasure. He is an extremely bright student and has a very high mathematical aptitude. He is also a hard worker. Instead of resting on his laurels, Daley has consistently demonstrated an all-around commitment to academic excellence. He works well with other students and has always had a knack for asking thoughtful questions and coming up with creative solutions. Due to his stellar attitude, excellent grades, and willingness to help other students, I selected Daley to be our school’s Math Student of the year for the 2009-2010 school year. One interesting thing about my experience with Daley was that he was the only student to take AP Calculus last year. Normally, I would anticipate that a class of one student would tend to be as enjoyable to teach as a typical class. Without the option for group work, peer-to-peer discussion, and multiple perspectives, there is a risk that the class will be dry and awkward. However, Daley’s maturity and positive attitude made the class an absolute pleasure. Remarkably, my experience in AP Calculus with Daley felt more like working with a colleague than teaching a Junior in high school. I have no doubt that Daley will be successful in college and beyond. He is one of the most well-rounded students that I have ever had the pleasure of teaching, and his interpersonal skills will take him far both inside and outside of the classroom. He is polite, personable, and dependable. Daley would be a valuable addition to any college or university that he attends. Letters of Recommendation
