  3. Calendar • The first day of school is Tuesday, August 28th • School begins at 8:50 and dismissal is at 3:50 • The first week of school is a three day week. Students come to school Tuesday, August 28th, Wednesday, August 29th, and Thursday, August 30st . • No school Friday and Monday (labor day holiday) • School will resume on Tuesday, September 4th .

First Day Procedures First Week Procedures • Students meet in the gym; parents are welcome to accompany students to the gym but they are not permitted to walk through the hallway or to the classroom. • Your child must know their bus number and will be sent home according to the information on the bus tag unless a note is written. Please place your child’s bus lanyard around their neck each day. This will help to ensure your child gets home safely. (You will fill this out today in the classroom and leave it here for the 1st day of school) • Pack lunch the first 2 weeks (pins)

  5. B.E.A.R. Binders • (Bring Everything Always Ready) • Please purchase a 1 inch binder and 3 folders (blue, yellow and red) • Please put the folders into the binder in the following order (blue, yellow, red) • Take good care of your binder as it will be used all year long! • Take your binder home every night and bring it back to school every morning

You need a note when….. • We use class dojo as our primary means of communication but the school policy is to send a handwritten note to school whenever your child is absent • Your child is absent (return must be 24 hours after fever or vomit) • You are going to change transportation arrangements • Your child is going to someone else’s house from the bus • Your child will have an early dismissal

Lunch Time • We ask that you pack a lunch for your student for the first two weeks of school • Each child will be assigned a pin when you receive your pin please practice on the pin pad provided in the packet • Students pin numbers will be written on their bus lanyard. Please let your child know when they are buying lunch. We strongly suggest that you set up a lunch account as soon as possible and deposit all money for lunch online rather than sending cash in. Important Update to Volunteer Procedures • All volunteers must have their clearances in order to work with children in our district.  This includes your own child.  We have several fun events throughout the year that will require you to have your clearances in order to participate.  It is free for volunteers so please complete the paperwork as soon as possible so that you can participate.  Clearances Needed: 1. PA State Police Criminal History Record: 2. PA Child Abuse History Clearance: 3.Bensalem Township School District volunteer form: Volunteer Disclosure Statement ***(If you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for less than 2 years, you will need to have the FBI fingerprint criminal record check)

  9. Save the Dates Field Trip • We are going to Lego Land in Spring, 2019 • Chaperones will be picked on a first come first serve basis (you will need the clearances to be picked) • More information to come! Back to School Night September 6th at 6:30 PM

  10. We use an app called “Class Dojo” for behavior management. The app is really fun for the kids because it encourages them to work hard for points based on their behavior. • Please sign up via text response • We will use Dojo as our primary day-to-day method of communication with you. We will be sending class messages through the app similar to group emails about homework and various day-to-day updates. You can also send private messages back and forth to me via the app. as well.

To Do for your Child’s First day of School: • Meet us in the gym (parents will not be allowed to walk their child to the classroom) • If you forgot your supplies please Put them in a bag or in their book bag • Binder: Put the 3 folders in the binder in this order: blue, yellow, red • Please place your child’s bus lanyard around their neck each day. This will help to ensure your child gets home safely. (we will have their lanyards at school on the first day) • Pack your child a lunch for the first 2 weeks of school • Our nurse requests that you always keep a change of clothes in your child’s school bag in case of accidents or lunch spills. • Relax, give them a big hug and kiss, this is a big day for both you and your child 

What Should I do now? • Set up class Dojo Account. • Set up lunch account. • Practice PIN number with your child. • Set up BEAR Binder for the first day of school. • Complete clearances. • Cut out letters, numbers, and sight words and begin practicing. • Have your child practice writing their first and last name. • Check out my webpage on the Bensalem School District website. • Prepare any additional supplies and paperwork for the first day of school. • Practice how your child will be dismissed each day. (ex: walker, pick up, bus number) • Get ready for the best year of your life!

  16. ` Carpet Spot Find your name on the carpet. What color is your square? Show me a good listening position. How do you think we sit on the carpet? Read a book with your family and I will take your picture

  17. Supply Station (hallway) Parents and guardians put the supplies you brought into the correct bins. Highlight your child’s name on the class list when you put the supply into the bin. Do this for each supply. Thank you for your generosity 

  18. Email Station Parents and guardians 1. Write your email on the clipboard 2. Type your email into the computer.

  19. Bus Tags -Find your child’s cubby and take their bus tag -Write your child’s first and last name -Fill out how they will be dismissed (bus, bus #, walker, etc) -Put their bus tag back on the hook in their cubby - Fill out how your child will go home on the clipboard next to their name

  20. Paperwork -Put the paperwork you filled out into the correct bins -If you didn’t bring the paperwork you can fill it out now

  21. Emergency Card/ Treat Yourself! 1. Fill out the emergency card and put it in the bin 2. Take a student gift and read it with your child!
