Summer Session A FEMST 151CJ: Sexual Cultures: Sexuality in Sport Chelsea Jones MTWR 2- 3:20pm LSB 1101 Enrollment Code: 15073 We will explore how sexuality is constructed within and through sports in the 20th and 21st century. Focusing primarily on LGBTQ identities, we will examine how sexualized bodies in sport interact with other axes of power including race, gender, class, nation, disability, and geography. Course themes will include: LGBTQ sexual politics in professional and collegiate sports; implications of gay and lesbian athletic organizations such as Athlete Ally and the You Can Play Project; sexuality in the Olympics, Special Olympics and Gay Games; out athletes and capitalism; and sex and disability in athletic cultural representations.
