Is private school education right for you? As a private school, we have one important goal: to prepare each of our students to gain acceptance into one of the world’s top universities. We give our students more than just academic skills, we provide them with tools, academic knowledge, and rigorous training to prepare them for success.
Check out what our high school has to offer: • Academics: Our independent school curriculum is approved by the British Columbia Ministry of Education and promotes research, reflection and debate through habitual reading, extended projects, clubs and societies, lectures from subject experts, and extensive choice of electives. These intellectual pursuits develop the freedom and confidence to think and speak independently and develop into the candidates that leading universities look for. • Partnerships: Canada Star Secondary School is both an AP and SAT Test Centre. Students are offered specialist subject support, seminars, and tutoring sessions after regular school hours. Students have the option to prepare for AP course exams as well as take university credit courses (dual credits) through our partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Students who maintain certain standards at Canada Star Secondary School are admitted directly to Trent University which is one of Canada’s number one undergraduate universities.
Academic Advisors: Virtually all our high school students take up places at the best universities. Our Universities Team includes specialists and gives specific guidance to those heading towards extremely competitive institutions. The Academic Advisors oversee university preparation, from initial ideas about course choice through to application submission, while ensuring the university choices dovetail with their career planning. Our Advisors manage university applications for all those applying to institutions around the world, guiding them through the complex university application process, including the ACT and SAT admissions tests required by US Universities. Each student will have regularly scheduled one on one meetings with their assigned Academic Advisor, who will offer personal statement advice and mock interviews. • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: While service is often rewarding in and of itself, many of the students have their work in these areas recognized through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This well-known international program requires students to learn a skill, undertake a physical recreation, carry out a service and complete an expedition, building resilience, perseverance, and grit.
Extra-curricular Learning: We offer extracurricular activities like clubs and after-school cooking classes, as well as basketball, badminton, and tennis. Through our Student Services Team, students are also encouraged to participate in volunteer opportunities that exist in Metro Vancouver. They are assisted in finding the volunteer opportunity that best suits the student. Every student is encouraged to make a positive contribution to society by exhibiting the traits evidenced in the Canada Star Secondary School Student Profile. Developing and maturing the individual, enabling students to uncover the talents, skills and values to be of good influence beyond the walls of Canada Star Secondary School.
Scholarship Opportunities: As part of our commitment to provide top academic training to tomorrow’s global leaders, we are proud to offer entrance scholarships to high school students committed to academic excellence. Many of our graduates are also offered scholarships at the Universities of their choice.
