  1. Evaluation Question 1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Our film “Sorrow” is a physiological thriller, it incorporates several themes typical to this genre. These themes include murder, fear, revenge and psychology of the mind. The narrative structure begins with a disequilibrium and although it never returns to the equilibrium the main character is trying to remember and figure out how the equilibrium changed to the disequilibrium. The narrative includes allot of suspense and plot twists. The Mise-en-scene of the title sequence relates to the genre. It is set in two locations both are public places but are secluded and surrounded by trees and plants. The detective wears dark clothes, a leather jacket and a detective hat. One prop that was used was the rose that the dead bodies both held in there hands, this shows that the two murders were linked somehow and relates to the thriller genre because it shows that it is a planned crime and not just a random murder. It also gives some mystery that the main character has to solve. The lighting is low at the scene of the dead body, this is because the dead body is under some trees with dark colours around the body like the grey path and brown mud, this shows the theme of death. A bit further away from the body the colours are bright and there is allot of green because of all the trees.

  2. Evaluation Question 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups? The characters in our film are all younger people. The two dead people are young girls one of which is the main characters sister. The main character is a young detective. The detective is a very calm person, this is shown in the title sequence as he walks very slowly towards the dead body, he also is quite a good detective and has experience with murder before, you can see this reflected in the title sequence as he does not seemed to be disturbed by the fact he is alone with a dead body. The costume of the main character shows the audience straight away that he is a detective. His costume includes a leather jacket and a detective styled hat. He has a camera around his neck, this also shows the audience that he his a detective because he uses it to take pictures of the dead body. This gives the audience the impression that he is doing an investigation and trying to solve the crime.

  3. Evaluation Question 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Our film is most likely to be distributed by “Revolver Entertainment” this is because our film is low budget and will be going straight to UK release instead of being shown in the cinema. Because the director and actors are not famous it will not be as easy to get people to see it in the cinema so it will be better to release it to DVD and show it at other places like art houses and film festivals for promotion. Although no-one from the film is big and successful yet this film will help them get noticed and if the film is successful the actors will get more well known allowing for a sequel to be made and be shown in the cinema.

  4. Evaluation Question 4 Who would be the audience for your media product? Our target audience is aimed at males and females aged 15-30. Our age rating is going to be a 15 because the themes include death and violence so it wont be suitable for younger people. Our film is a physiological thriller and has a complex narrative so younger people will find it hard to understand. Some older people will be put off by the violence and complex narrative so will not be focusing on advertising much on people over 30. The main people who will watch our film are younger people who like to watch a thriller film with violence and death but are not dependant on fast action scenes.

  5. Evaluation Question 5 How did you attract your audience? Because our target audience is 15-30 we will be doing allot of promoting online. While the film is being made we will create a few trailers. We can upload these trailers to youtube this is an effective way to attract our audience because if they see it they can easily share it with there friends through social networking sites such as facebook. Will promote word of mouth by having some interviews with some of the actors and the director posted online because that is the easiest way for our target audience to read them. We will also put some adverts on facebook because it is easy to set to adverts to only show to people who fit our target audience. Because facebook requires people to give them allot of personal information we can set the adverts to only show to people who are 15-30 and more frequently for people who view fan pages of similar films or the actors in our film so that almost everyone we advertise to will be interested in out film.

  6. Evaluation Question 6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your product? While creating this title sequence I learnt allot about lots of different technologies. While filming the preliminary exercise I learnt about using a tripod. It can be used well for panning shots and establishing shots, also if attached to the camera it can help get a steadier hand held shot because of the weight. I also learnt how important it is to shoot as much footage as possible while on location so all the conditions are the same and then decide which clips go through to the final composition. This saves time because it in not necessary to re-shoot anything. While editing the preliminary exercise I learnt the basics of how to cut and edit clips together and add music.

  7. Evaluation Question 7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? After completing the preliminary task I developed allot of skills that improved while I was making the title sequence. In the preliminary task I made some of the shots badly out of focus and not well exposed and this really affected the continuity. When I was on location shooting our title sequence I spent a long time making sure that our clips looked right and then managed to fiddle with the settings more while editing. I think it has helped my allot and if I was going to make another film I would have no trouble getting the clips to look how they should.
