  1. RomansRighteousness Revealed The Author The Church The Epistle

  2. Paul’s Biography “If anyone thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own but that which that comes from the law, comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith - Phil. 3:4-9 (ESV)

  3. The Church “…I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.” Romans 1:8

  4. The Epistle to the Romans Purpose – To teach the Gospel of Grace to believers who had never received apostolic teaching. Theme – The Righteousness of God Revealed Divisions Romans 1-8 – Theological truths of the Gospel of Grace Romans 9-11 – Israel’s salvation Romans 12-16 – The practical completion of grace in the life of the believer

  5. The Epistle to the Romans “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16, 17 (ESV)

  6. The Epistle to the Romans Gospel – (Gr.) euggelion – “nearly too-good-to-be-true news.

  7. “This letter is the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian’s while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul. It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well. The more one deals with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes.” “Preface to the letter of St. Paul to the Romans” Martin Luther
