Machine • Machine- A tool used to make work easier.
Simple Machine • Simple Machine- Simple tools used to make work easier.
Compound Machine • Compound Machine- Two or more simple machines working together to make work easier.
Work • Work- A force acting on an object to move it across a distance.
Inclined Plane • Incline Plane- A flat surface that is slanted to help move objects over a distance.
Wedge • Wedge- The pointed edge of an inclined plane. Used to push things apart.
Screw • Screw- An inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder.
Lever • Lever- An arm that pivots (turns) against a fulcrum.
Wheel and Axle • Wheel and Axle- The rotation of a lever against a point, moving an object across a distance. The wheel turns the axle.
Pulley • Pulley- The use of a wheel to rotate a rope or cord. The cord wraps around the wheel, and as the wheel rotates, the rope move in either direction.
Gear • Gear- Two toothed wheels that fit together so that one moves the other.
