Thank You • My first month has been wonderful. • Thank you again for the opportunity to be the President of Indiana State University. • Cheri and I have had one warm and welcoming experience after another and are more than convinced that we made a great decision in coming to Terre Haute and ISU.

  3. First Impressions • The Cabinet is, as advertised, first rate. • Faculty and Staff and EAP employee groups are ready to move forward. • Terre Haute is incredibly supportive of ISU. • We were surprised at how quickly we came to feel at come here. • Current resources will allow for aggressive action to meet goals.

  4. Goals of the first few weeks • Participate in as many on-campus events/activities as possible • Meet with primary internal constituents • Begin meetings with external constituents (legislators, donors, community leaders, alumni) • Launch new efforts in strategic areas • Listen, listen, listen

Initiatives Underway • Enrollment and Retention Task Force formed and working to develop 5 to 10 ways to impact Fall 2009 enrollment and retention. • RFP for consultants to assist with land use planning and repair/replacement planning of existing structures developed and distributed to potential vendors. • RFP for strategic planning consultants developed and distributed to potential firms.

Initiatives Underway • Proposals under review for use of one-time reversionary funds to impact enrollment, improve retention, enhance distinctive programs and/or expand experiential learning opportunities. • Rural Health Innovation Collaborative: (Partnership with ISU, Union Hospital, IU School of Medicine) • Reviewed current and pending capital projects: • University Hall – on schedule, within budget • Student Recreation Center – on schedule, within budget • Federal Building – at least one year behind schedule, $7 to $9 million funding gap, laid groundwork for further federal support

Initiatives Underway • 5th and Cherry Street Project progressing, met with Vermillion Development, met with Barnes and Noble Corporate, obtained bid for leasing/selling property. • Fundraising • Attended campaign training and reception at AON building in Chicago • Have started meetings with donor prospects assigned to the president • Working on federal funding initiatives, met with Senator Bayh staffer on Federal Building and Business incubator

  12. Initiatives Underway • Toured Athletics Facilities (Included in land use/facilities planning RFP) • Division of Affirmative Action and Diversity functions, internal search for Director of Affirmative Action underway, national search for Chief Diversity Officer to be launched • President’s Commission on Diversity to be reconstituted as ISU Council on Diversity • Restructuring: Internal Audit realigned with General Counsel, Chief of Staff position eliminated, etc.
