  5. How can you help your child at home? • Talk to them about their day • Continue to read with your child every day – read to them and let them read to you. Talk about what they have read – ask lots of questions, specific and general • Help them to learn their spellings ‘look, cover, write, check’ method • Encourage time on Mathletics •  Keep them healthy – early bed times, limit TV, healthy food, exercise

  6. How can you help us? • Label all clothing • Read all letters, check book bag daily, use website • Ensure they have a named water bottle in school • Talk to us at the end of the day or via email/phone if there is a problem • Spend time on learning at home • Reinforce school rules and sanctions/rewards at home

  7. End of Key Stage 1 Assessments

  8. What are the end of Key Stage One assessments? • Previously known as SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests), • Will include assessments in Maths, Reading and Writing at an appropriate ability level, • An assessment to attain your child’s National Curriculum level before they enter Key Stage 2, • The child’s level will be gained from the tasks undertaken at the end of Year 2 and the teacher’s on-going assessments throughout the year, • The assessments help our teachers learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of what your child understands about a subject.

  9. What else do I need to know? • Throughout the year, we will make sure children are working towards end of Key Stage One expectations; ‘Booster’ groups will be delivered to address any gaps in children’s learning, • Your child CANNOT fail their SATs. They will receive a level, which will be reported to you at the end of Year 2 (as part of their school report), • The National Expectation is that children achieve a Level 2b. Your child may be above or below this; Year 3 teachers will use their results to plan for the next year to meet your child’s individual needs.

  10. How can you help? • Don’t talk about SATs or ‘tests’ with your child, • No practice papers, • Don’t pressurise your child, • Complete homework as normal. REMEMBER your child’s final National Curriculum level is not decided purely on the task/test but from assessments that have been completed since September.

  11. We will hold a further information meeting in the Spring Term.Any questions?
