Standalone AP Details • WiNG 5.2 brings a web interface to access points, making Standalone AP deployment easier • During initial setup wizard, simply select Standalone • MLCP is stopped on an AP when in Standalone mode, so it will not adopt to a controller nor will it adopt other Access Points MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Virtual Controller Overview • Virtual Controller provides controller-like features such as: • Firmware Updates for the other like Access Points on that location • Configuration Management for the other like Access Points • Statistics collection and aggregation • Troubleshooting for all the other like Access Points on that location • In addition an Access Point acting as a Virtual Controller supports all the features of an Independent Access Point • A Virtual Controller can have one RF Domain and one Profile • Any Access Point specific configurations that do not conform to that common Profile will need to be configured as overridesfor that particular Access Point MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Virtual Controller – Initial Configuration Initially Accessing Access Points Quick Start Wizard • If DHCP is present on the Access Points Native VLAN, the Access Points will dynamically obtain an IPv4 Address from the DHCP server • If no DHCP services are present, each Access Point will be automatically configured with a Zero Config IPv4 Address 169.254.X.Y/16 where: • X = the decimal equivalent of the 5th octet of the MAC address • Y = the decimal equivalent of the 6th octet of the MAC address • For example an Access Point with the MAC address 00-23-68-97-04-DC will use the Zero Config IPv4 Address 169.254.4.220 • Alternatively if a serial console port is supported on the Access Point, use the Serial Console port to assign a static IP address MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Virtual Controller - Initial Configuration Quick Start Wizard • The Quick Start Wizard is automatically launched when you first login to the WiNG 5.X UI on an access point running a default configuration • The Quick Start Wizard may also be manually launched from the Configuration tab but only if the Wireless Controller’s default configuration has not been modified • The Wizard can be cancelled at any time, leaving the configuration in its default state. Virtual Controller – Initial Configuration Considerations • Only one RF Domain is supported • Only one Profile is supported (System Profile) based on the Access Point model • Examples ap6511-default, ap6532-default or ap71xx-default • A Virtual Controller can ONLY manage Access Points of the same model • Both Layer 2 and Layer 3 Adoptions are supported • Local Bridging Only • Extended VLAN functions are still available on the Access Points but are not supported in this release • RADIUS Server Policies are applied to the Virtual Controller Access Point • AAA Policies require the Server Type to be set to Onboad Controller • Captive Portal runs on each Access Point • Requires the Captive Portal Server Mode to be set to Internal (Self) • Each Access Point requires a Virtual IP Address on the assigned Guest VLAN MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Configuration Migration Tool Configuration Migration Overview • WiNG 5.2 introduced configuration migration functionality • Automated script that runs after a 4.x to 5.2 upgrade • Offline utility for more detail Automated Script: • Python application (script) that runs very early in the bootup process, before configured daemons start • Consists of a parser, a printer and a small amount of management code • Works on WiNG 4.x configurations to 5.2 and can revert configuration as well • Much of a 4.x configuration will carry over into 5.2. Configuration Migration Tool Configuration Migration Process 1 User makes backup (offline) copy of WiNG 4.X configuration 2 User performs upgrade as normal to WiNG 5.X 3 4 5 6 During reboot, the migration script determines if conversion is needed and runs minimal connectivity conversion (IP’s, Default-Gateway, etc.) For further detailed conversion, an offline Windows utility is used against the backup copy, which carry over additional settings, such as configured WLAN’s. To complete, some parameters will need to be created, as they are foreign to a 4.X config; i.e. rf-domains, policies, etc. Copy of old config will be created, named according to previous version MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Smart Band Control Overview • Introduced in WiNG 5.1, Smart Band Control detects dual radio clients and will distribute clients in each radio band based on a configurable ratio or percentage • One part in our Client Load Balancing strategy, allowing us to balance: • Across AP’s • Across Bands (2.4 or 5 GHz) • Across Channels in a band Competition only provides on band 2:1 Ratio MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Smart Band Control How dual band clients are handled • An MU associates to an AP, which in turn learns the MU’s band capabilities • The AP then sends out a WNMP roam-notification to all other AP’s, advertising the MU’s band capabilities • Other network AP’s update a special MU band-capability table for subsequent roams • New AP can then influence MU’s selection of band if necessary WNMP 2.4GHz 5GHz MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL

Smart Band Control What if client won’t change bands? • 2.4GHz is heavily loaded; a new client shows up • AP ignores probe requests, attempting to push client to 5GHz • Client persists probing at 2.4GHz; AP may interpret this as client being temporarily unable to connect at 5GHz (perhaps due to radar avoidance). • Once a pre-configured probe-request threshold is surpassed, AP allows client to connect at 2.4GHz 2.4GHz 5GHz MOTOROLA PROPRIATARY AND CONFIDENTIAL
