Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines Nonprofit organizations • 501(c)3 or otherwise eligible for tax deductible donations • in or serving Armstrong County • Other Foundations and religiously affiliated organizations are not eligible to participate, unless they are raising money for a particular community project that serves the larger community.

  6. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines • ACCF will determine if the organization is eligible. If approved, the profile will be published on www.ArmstrongGives.org. • Registration • Deadline is April 30 • www.ArmstrongGives.org • Submit a copy of IRS Determination Letter and a list of board of directors to ACCF, 160 N. McKean St., Kittanning, PA 16201 or email to tracy@accfound.org or fax to 724-548-4275.

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines • Minimum Gift◆: $20.00 • Maximum Gift◆: $5,000.00 • Organizations are prohibited from donating to themselves. • Previous pledges, other regular gifts, or grants are ineligible for matching dollars. ◆All gifts under $20 will be passed through; any amount over $5,000 will be passed through.

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines • All donations for approved nonprofits must be made payable to the ACCF, with the organization designated to qualify for matching funds. • All qualifying contributions will receive a portion of the match. • The matching dollars will be pro-rated, and will depend upon the total amount of the Match Fund, and the total amount of donations received.

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 • Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines • Thursday, May 9, 2013 12:00am-11:59pm • All donation activity must take place ON the Day of Giving. • qualifying donations must be received on or postmarked on May 9. • Credit card (online only), check, and cash donations will be accepted. • Donations hand delivered after business hours can be left in the mail slot.

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Day of Giving Rules & Guidelines • ACCF will not absorb the online fees • Online fees will be deducted from the total online donation. • Nonprofit organizations may ask their online donors to give a few extra dollars to cover this cost. • Fee calculation is 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction. • The ACCF is not eligible to participate or receive matching funds.

  11. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 • Three options for making your donation: • Write a check to ACCF with [organization] in the memo and hand deliver it on May 9 to 160 N. McKean St, Kittanning. • Write a check to ACCF with [organization] in the memo and mail it to 160 N. McKean St, Kittanning, PA 16201 on May 9 (postmark must be May 9, 2013, not delivered on May 9). • Make a secure online donation from www.ArmstrongGives.org on May 9.

  12. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Example: • $50,000 match • $200,000 community donations • Jane Doe’s $100 donation • 50,000 / 200,000 = .25 • 25% match = $0.25/dollar = $25 match • Total donation to your nonprofit = $125!

  14. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Promote, Promote, Promote! • Start with your board of directors! • Then go to your donors/mailing list • Letters • Flyers • Postcards • Newsletters / Press Release Customizable Templates available at ArmstrongGives.org

  15. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Promote, Promote, Promote! • Emails – now, then more frequently as May 9th nears • Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) • Come up with a 10-day count down to build excitement • Phone Calls – now and on May 8th

  16. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Promotional Strategies • Focus on the Donor – you are giving them an opportunity to make a difference! Be sure to tell them how they can make a difference by donating.

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 The Big Day • Our office will be well marked – balloons, signs, sidewalk chalk, and free parking • We will be open early in the morning, late in the afternoon • Mail slot in the door for before/after hours • Totals will be updated online throughout the day and on our Facebook Page (search Armstrong County Community Foundation)

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Pay Day • We hope to have final calculations and checks issued by the end of May. • We will mail to you: • Results • A check totaling all contributions made for your organization, plus your portion of the match • All donor information Please be patient…it always takes us longer than we think it should.

  19. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Follow Up • SAY THANK YOU! • Send thank you letters (or make calls) to your donors within 2 weeks of receipt of your list. We will send thank you letters to donors of $250 or more, as required by the IRS. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM THANKING THESE DONORS! • Send thank you letters to all of the match partners (after all, they provided the match money!).

Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Silver Star: Electronic Outreach How to earn it: Promote your participation in the Day of Giving using electronic media, which includes but is not limited to: Emails eNewsletters Facebook posts Twitter Prove it to us: add us to your distribution list! jessica@accfound.org

  28. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Red Star: Direct Contact/Mail How to earn it: Promote your participation in the Day of Giving using direct contact or direct mail.   29. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Blue Star: SuperHero How to earn it: Promote your participation in the Day of Giving, and your role in the community with a Superhero themed photo. The photo must be submitted to ACCF via Facebook or email and your organization must be identifiable either in the photo or the caption. All photos must be original and have a caption. Be Creative!

  30. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 Green Star: Event How to earn it: Host an event for your donors to participate in the Day of Giving. The event must take place on or before the Day of Giving. ACCF must receive an invitation to your event, and we’ll probably show up too! Some ideas: a dinner, an open house, a speaker, a reception.

  31. Day of GivingMay 9, 2013 CROWN How to earn it: All members of your Board of Directors must make a donation to your organization on the Day of Giving ($20 minimum). The crown will only be available and visible on the website after the Day of Giving.
