  1. How Plant & Animal cells are alike: • A.     These cells are made up of the same materials. • B.     These cells all have cytoplasm, a nucleus and a cell membrane. • C.     Both cells carry out basic life activities (take in food, make energy, reproduce etc .) D. They are both eukaryotic cells.

  2. Name given to cells with NO nucleus • Prokaryotic

  3. 2. How plant & animal cells are different: • A.     Plant cells have chloroplasts so they can make their own food. B. Plant cells have a cell wall to give plants shape and structure.

  4. 3. How YOU are similar to a one celled bacteria: • A.     we both can take in food • B.     we both release wastes • C.     we both need energy • D.     we both reproduce • E.      we both grow, live and die F. we both are made of cells

  5. How Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells differ: • Prokaryotic cells do NOT have a membrane around their nucleus therefore they do NOT have a nucleus. Prokaryotic cells do NOT have a membrane around their ORGANELLES, therefore they do NOT have organelles. • Eukaryotic cells DO HAVE a membrane around their nucleus, so they have a nucleus. Eukaryotic cells DO have membrane around their organelles, therefore, they do have organelles.

  6. What is the organization of living things going from the smallest unit you are made of to the biggest level which is you! • Cells (cells working together make a. . .) • Tissue (tissues working together make a . . ) • Organ (Organs working together make a. . .) • System (Systems working together make a . . .) • Organism

  7. What are the three parts of the cell theory? • 1. All living things are made of cells • 2. The cell is the basic unit of structure and function of all all living things. • 3. All cells come from other cells.

  8. This man made the first compound microscope. • Janssen This man First used the term “cells” to describe the “boxes” he saw while looking at cork. • Hooke

  9. This man studied plants and said that all plants are made of cells. • Schleiden This man studied animals and said that all animals are made of cells. Schwann

  10. Name the man who created the first vaccine to prevent a virus! • Edward Jenner What disease did Jenner help prevent? Smallpox

  11. In 1853-54 this man found and stated that all cells come from preexisting cells. • Virchow

  12. Name the three men who are given credit for the Cell Theory. • Schleiden • Schwann • Virchow

  13. This man used a glass bead as a simple lens to look at pond water. He saw little moving organisms never seen before at a magnification of 270x. • Leewhenhoek

  14. Name the cell part that:surrounds cell and allows materials to enter or leave the cell • Cell Membrane

  15. Name the cell part that:Makes and releases energy • Mighty mitochondria

  16. Name the cell part that:transports information from the nucleus to other cell parts. • Endoplasmic Reticulum (E.R.)

  17. Name the cell part that:allows plants to make food and oxygen • Chloroplasts

  18. Name the cell part that:stores and secrets protein and other chemicals • Golgi Bodies or Golgi Apparatus

  19. Name the cell part that:is made mostly of water and fills the cell with a jelly-like substance. • Cytoplasm

  20. Name the cell part that:is the control center of the cell • Nucleus

  21. Name the cell part that:is only on plant cells and give plant cells their shape and structure. • Cell Wall

  22. Name the cell part that:digests and gets rid of unwanted dead organelles in the cell • Lysosomes

  23. Name the cell part that:Stores water and food • Vacuole

  24. Name the cell part that:makes proteins • ribosomes

  25. Name cell part number 6 • Cell wall

  26. Name cell part number 11 • MITOCHONDRIA

  27. Name cell part number 3 • RIBOSOMES

  28. Name cell part number 1 • CHLOROPLAST

  29. Name cell part number 5 • VACUOLE

  30. Name cell part number 9 • NUCLEUS OR NUCLEAR MEMBRANE

  31. Name cell part number 2 • CELL MEMBRANE

  32. Name cell part number 8 • CYTOPLASM

  33. Name cell part number 4 • ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM (E.R.)

  34. Name cell part number 10 • CHROMATIN, • NUCLEOLUS • OR NUCLEUS
