Tuberculosis –a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosisTransmitted via respiratory routeOrganism appears in water droplets expelled during coughing & sneezing or talking.Mainly affects lungs but can spread through blood stream and lymphatic system to brain , bones, eyes & skin.Drugs used to treat tuberculosis are called as antitubercular drugs.

CLASSIFICATION First Line agents - effective bacterial agents ,with acceptable degree of toxicity Eg:Isoniazid,Ethambutol,Rifampicin,Streptomycin,PyrazinamideRifabutin Second Line agents-for microbial resistance or patient related factors Eg: Ethionamide, Amino salicylic acid, Cycloserine,Amikacin,Capreomycin

  4. FIRST LINE AGENTS • ISONIAZID (INH) CONH NH2 N 4-Pyridinecarboxyilic acid hydrazide
