The Bible’s Song of Songs

"The whole word is not worth the day on which the Song of Songs was given to Israel; for all the writings are Holy, but the Song of Songs is the Holiest of the Holy."

[Rabbi Akiva (died CE 135), Tractate of Yaddayim (3:5), Mishna]

(10) My beloved is dazzling yet ruddy. He stands out among 10,000 men.[NASB]

… the most chief among ten thousand. [American KJV]

(11) His head is as the finest gold: his locks as branches of palm trees, black as a raven. [Douay-Rheims Bible]

Song of Songs Chapter 5: Verse (10-16)

(12) … His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks, Washed with milk, and fitly set.

(13) His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as banks of sweet herbs: his lips are as lilies, dropping liquid myrrh. [ERV]

(14) His hands are as rings of gold set with beryl: His body is as ivory work overlaid with sapphires. [ASV]

(15) His legs are pillars of alabaster set on pedestals of pure gold; His appearance is like Lebanon Choice as the cedars. [NASB]

(16) His speech is most sweet, and he is Altogether Desirable - מַחֲמַדִּים. This is my beloved and this is my friend O daughters of Jerusalem. [RSV]

“Hikko mamtakeem,

v'hulo Mahammadim,

ze Dodee v'ze ra‘ee,

bano Yarushalaym"

Shir Hashirim - Song of Songs Chapter 5, Verse 16

Hebrew Transliteration

Hebrew Text

  • *Mahammadim- The “m” in Hebrew linguistically indicates plural of respect and royalty. Its addition to a word expresses Nobility and Grandeur. Such as: “Alahim”- God. So Mahammadim means:

  • [Mahammad the Great or Noble]

  • *Dodee – translated as ‘beloved’, but in Hebrew it actually means Paternal Uncle- (father’s brother); translated as such at least five times in Bible in other places. Therefore ‘Dodee’ means:

  • [He is of Israel’s (Jacob’s) paternal uncle]

greatness & nobility

The BiBle’s

Song of SoNgS (5:16)

  • Corrected translation of verse 16:

“His mouth is Most sweet:And he isמַחֲמַדִּ– Mahammad!(the Great & Noble)He is of our paternal uncle (Ishmael), And this is My Beloved, Oh daughters of Jerusalem."

The jews were awaiting a special prophet other than jesus
The Jews were awaiting a special Prophet OTHER THAN JESUS!

The Bible (John 1:19-21) NIV

Now this was John’s testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely,

“I am not the Christ (i.e. the Messiah).”

They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you ELIJAH?”

He said, “I am Not.”

“Are you THE PROPHET?”

He answered, “No.”

1. The Messiah 2. Elijah 3. The Prophet

His City of Migration: “an everlasting covenant”

Fleeing to MEDINA

Muhammad in the bible

Bible Terminology “an everlasting covenant”

  • (J. Hastings Dictionary of the Bible)

  • Tema / Teman = Al Medina- (Medinatur-Rasulullâh)

says it is:“an oasis just north of Medina”

  • Its settlers comprised of:

    3 Jewish Tribes –

    • Banu Qainu Qâ’a

    • Banu Na‘deer

    • Banu Quraitha

      2 Arab Tribes –

    • Aws

    • Khazraj

These 3 Levi Tribes came to‘Medina’to await the coming of a Last days Prophet. They believed that this was the oasis that the Prophet would migrate to.

Muhammad in the bible

These tribes are descendants of‘Yathribi’– the descendant of‘Tema’ – the son of Ishmael

Salama bin Salam bin Waqsh “an everlasting covenant”– Said: “We had a Jewish neighbor from the family of Banu Abdul Ash-hal; and he came out of his house one day to us. At that time I was the youngest of my household. I was lying in the courtyard of my family’s house. The Jew talked about the Resurrection, the Reckoning, the Scales, Paradise and Hellfire. This he told to Idolaters who did not believe in any life after death. They replied, ‘Come on now! You really think people can be sent after their death to some place where there is a paradise and a fire where they will be punished for their deeds.’ ‘Yes indeed!’ he replied. ‘And by Him by whom oaths are sworn, Anyone going into that fire would prefer being placed in the hottest oven in the house and having it covered over him, and he being let out of it only the next day’

Then they said, ‘Good Gracious! But what proof is there? He (the Jewish man) then said, ‘A Prophet is being sent from the hereabouts in these lands(and he gestured to the south - over towards Mecca and Yemen). ‘When will we see him’ they inquired. He looked over at me, being the youngest one there, and said: ‘If this lad lives a normal lifespan – he will live lit this time’. Salama said, “And a Day and a Night had scarcely passed thereafter until God sent His Messenger who lived among us, and so we believed in him, but he, (the Jew) disbelieved in him out of evil and envy.’

  • In disputes the Jews would threaten the Arabs with a Prophet who would soon come to Medina to destroy them

  • A Jewish neighbor’s Forewarningof that Prophet’s Arrival in Medina

  • Abdullah ben Salâm(Chief Rabi of the Jews)
