  3. Point Mutations • mutation that affects a single nucleotide, usually by substituting one nucleotide for another

  4. Substitution Mutation • A substitution is a mutation that exchanges/replace one base for another (i.e switching an A to a G). • a substitution could cause the protein function to change or not work at all

  5. Frame shift mutation mutation that shifts the "reading" frame of the genetic message by inserting or deleting a nucleotide
