  1. CLARREO SDT Meeting • Introduction, Mission Status, • and Meeting Goals • David Young April 10-12, 2012

  2. CLARREO Status • CLARREO project funding • FY12 funding is roughly consistent with the 2012 White Paper • Budgets for FY13 and beyond are significantly reduced • Project is providing HQ with a revised plan and an impact assessment • SDT funding • Second year funds should have been distributed • Third year funding should be consistent with year 2 • SDT outlook • Currently the SDT ends in Spring 2014 • Continuation or re-competition of SDT at the current level is unlikely with forecasted budget

  3. Additional Funding Opportunities • ROSES 2012 • MAP (~$9M, ~40 awards, PS: Considine, due May 25) • Investigations utilizing observations which are aimed at identifying, characterizing, and reducing uncertainties in model predictions of climate change on seasonal to multidecadal time scales. This includes investigation and model representation of feedbacks, and components of the climate system which may provide predictive capability • Model-based methods for establishing appropriate measurement requirements for climate monitoring to reduce uncertainties in global climate model projections. Current climate models exhibit a broad range of projections of climate change over the next few centuries, and this wide uncertainty envelope limits the utility of the model projections. Methods to better characterize and reduce this uncertainty are sought, in particular through the use of current observational capabilities and by determining and establishing requirements for key measurements to which the climate projections are most sensitive. • ROSES 2011 CLARREO-related selections • Tobin (Hyperspectral Infrared Satellite IntercalibrationStudies) • Strow (Hyperspectral Infrared Earth Radiance Time Series) • Currey (Multi-Instrument Inter-Calibration Framework) • Can we add CLARREO elements to ROSES 2013?

  4. Additional Funding Opportunities • Venture Class EVI-1 and EV-2 • EV-2 decisions due this Spring • EVI-1 proposals due in May • Applied Science Program • There are funds available for missions in formulation • ESTO • May be renewed interest since CLARREO is in Pre-Phase A • Langley Science Innovation Fund • Limited funding. More details on Thursday

  5. Other News • WMO / GSICS letter of support • WMO / UN ISS paper • UK Letter of Agreement near approval • Successful completion of recent IR and RS spectrometer IIP’s. LASP RS IIP is now in a second phase leading to high altitude balloon flight demonstration ~ Aug 2013. • BAMS article • Looking for feedback from the team • Need a list of recent CLARREO-related publications

  6. Planning (revisit on Thursday) • Upcoming conferences • Do we want to propose a CLARREO AGU session? • NIST Lunar Workshop (May 14-15) • CALCON • AMS R-to-O session in January 2012 • Outreach to modeling community • Input to next Decadal Survey

  7. Meeting Goals • Continue to demonstrate progress on CLARREO science studies • Update the team on technology developments • Update the team on partnering and alternative mission options • Plan for next year of SDT
