  1. Mrs. Hyde’s First Grade Class Welcome students and parents!

  2. Welcome to First Grade! • I would like to go over some things you will need to know about first grade. After reading this PowerPoint presentation, be sure to find the file folder on your child’s desk. Please take the folder home with you. Please return any papers that need to be filled out. You may keep the other papers for your convenience. These papers are very important so please send them back to school on Monday.

  3. School Supplies • Pease place personal supplies like pencils, erasers and etc. in your child’s desk. • Please place other supplies in labeled containers outside the classroom. I will store supplies for later use. • Please, open and label headphones and place them in the provided baggie that is on your child’s desk.

  4. Transportation to and from School • Please remember to sign the transportation sheet. If you do not have an assigned number to fill in, please visit the transportation area in the back hallway to get a number. Then, be sure to come back and write the number on our classroom list. This is very important.  If I do not have a bus or car number listed, I will not know how your child is to be sent home on the first day of school.  Please help your child memorize their transportation number as soon as possible.

  5. Medications/Allergies • If your child takes any medicine at school or has any allergies or health problems, please let me know tonight.

  6. Attendance • School starts at 7:40 a.m. • If you arrive after that, you will need to bring your child inside to check them in at the school office before coming to class. • If students are tardy three times, the school will count it as an unexcused absence.

  7. Breakfast and Lunch • Breakfast is $1.00. • Lunch is $1.75. • Ice-cream is 50¢.  • First graders may purchase ice-cream on Fridays at the parents’ discretion if they have money in their lunch account.  Be sure to discuss this with your child. • For your convenience, you may pay lunch money in advance in the lunchroom.

  8. Sending Money to School • Please place all money in an envelope with your child’s name, the amount of money, and how it is to be spent. • All lunch money must be labeled with your child’s first and last name and lunch number.  If one check covers more than one sibling, be sure to include all names and numbers and also the amount to be placed in each account. • Please do not send any money that is not labeled for a specific purpose.

  9. Folders • Your child should bring two folders home each night. • The Reading/AR folder will have an AR sheet in it and the reading homework. Please initial this folder each night after your child has read his/her homework. • The Take-Home folder has daily work, homework and important notes in it. Please clean this folder out daily and respond to any necessary forms.

  10. Spelling • A spelling test is given each Thursday. • The test covers ten words that are taken from our phonics and reading lessons. • A list that covers six weeks will be sent home when we begin each new reading unit. Please keep the list for the duration of the unit so that you can study with your child at home.

  11. Classroom Donation • We ask for a $20.00 donation for the class each year. • This money helps purchase needed items for our classroom.  Your donation is greatly appreciated, not to mention tax-deductible. • The state will not be giving teachers instructional money this year like they have in the past.

  12. PTO/Parent Volunteers • Don’t forget to join the Parent/Teacher Organization.  Sign up at the yellow table. The cost is $5.00 per family. • Please sign up to be a parent volunteer also. The room mom will call for your help at special events.

  13. Contact Information • Please email me at school at ahyde@oneonta.k12.al.us or call the school office if you have any questions or concerns. I will be happy to call you back or meet with you.
