Ir a + infinitive 1 In Spanish, as in English, the future can also be expressed by using the present tense of the verb ir plus aand the infinitive of the main verb: ir a + infinitivo =to be going to do something. Este fin de semana voy a ver una película en el cine. This weekend I’m going to watch a film in the cinema. Este fin de semana voy a jugar con mi Playstation. This weekend I’m going to play on my Playstation. The structure ir a + infinitivo is used to indicate an action which is about to happen: it is referred to as the ‘Immediate Future’.

Ir a + infinitive 2 The following words and expressions are used when you are going to do something: Hoy – today Mañana – tomorrow Más tarde – later Esta tarde/noche – this afternoon/tonight Este fin de semana – this weekend La semana/el mes/el año que viene – next week/month/year Mañana por la mañana/tarde/noche – tomorrow morning/ tomorrow afternoon/ tomorrow night
