  3. What are Action Verbs? • The main word in the predicate is the verb. • Most verbs are action verbs. • An action verb shows what the subject does or did. • Example: • The ball flew over the plate. • Jill pitches the ball. • Roberto swings the bat. • Roberto ran to first base.

  4. What is the action verb in each sentence? • People admire Mildred Ella “Babe” Didrikson as an all round athlete. • At sixteen she joined an excellent women’s basketball team. • She scored a hundred points in one game! • During that same period, she won medals as a swimmer.

  5. Which words are verbs? • She also set records as a figure skater. • Didrikson entered many track and field events. • In the 1932 Olympics, she captured three medals. • Sports reporters named her the greatest woman athlete.
