Post Olympics • Fairly quiet whilst waiting for rights issues to be resolved on 24x7 channels, some events including: • Queens Tennis, Open Golf • World Athletics Championship • 07-07-2005 11Gbit, 120K streams - http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/stats.shtml • Other events as they happen, Sport are set up to stream anything they get rights for
Background work • H264 developing, standard for HDTV • H264 now in QT, VLC and appearing in other apps. Aiming for common content Internet & TV • IPTV taking off, BT and others have announced VoD and live Homechoice style services. We have full DTT MPEG2 streams prior to H264 STB availability 2005Q4
Background work • Looking at Interactive TV/Internet cross over/convergence - which middle ware? • ADSL rates rising - 8M now, 24M soon • 10M cable announced • Ongoing work with ISPs to build reach • Some ISPs wait and see, others quietly building out enabling access for all users (100K+ for some)
Todays STM • After content rights are fixed roll out will be fairly rapid. Other content owners (e.g. Sky) getting interested in Broadband capabilities • Good to use this quiet time to assist more ISPs set up • James will demonstrate easy set up
Multicast Trial Network • Standalone infrastructure, http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast/peering/ AS31459 UK, AS34158 International • Dedicated LINX & LoNAP ports, PIs in Telehouse North if required. • UK only routes as per BBCi Broadband. • All welcome multicast-tech@bbc.co.uk
