Production of Petal Mechanics

Production of Petal Mechanics. . Petal plates (EUROCOMPOSITE) to be made with T300 skins (+45 °/-45°). Second skins (FVT) are M40 (0°/90°) and are available. Arrangement gives good stability in all directions. First 2 plates (10 petals) expected next week – prototype petals will be checked.

  1. Production of Petal Mechanics .Petal plates (EUROCOMPOSITE) to be made with T300 skins (+45°/-45°) Second skins (FVT) are M40 (0°/90°) and are available Arrangement gives good stability in all directions First 2 plates (10 petals) expected next week – prototype petals will be checked for stability(mount petal at 0°/45°/90° orientation and hang weight of 2kg) .Ti-pipes for cooling circuit all delivered; bending jigs (FP and BP) available .Manifolds redesigned (simplified): material SS and in one piece Waiting for welding trials to the Ti-cooling pipes .Inserts (all types) in hand and electrically insulating! Gluing jigs (FP and BP) ready .Small parts in hand Conclusion:Petal production can start as soon as welded manifolds exist

  2. Tests/Quality control during petal production 1/Leak test for cooling circuit (at 3 x working pressure = 12bar) A setup exists in Louvain, to be implemented in Aachen 2/ Measure thermal efficiency/electrical resistance of each insert Measurement combined in one test setup, which is in preparation. Results DB 3/ Precision and Deformation measurements Control all petals at start of production (10-15%); Sample later Measure all insert positions on CMM (room temperature) Cool petal and measure inserts on CMM in cold condition (has to be tried to see if measurement can be done fast enough to avoid ice formation) , or Optical method (setup exists but not yet taken into operation) 4/ ICB testing : operative (WK)

  3. Request: Decide the petal types to be integrated in each center, so that the small parts needed for petal integration (centerliners,screws,washers,bridges,…..) and of course subsequently the other components (modules,AOHs,…) can be distributed accordingly
