DAY 1 – POINTS OF INFORMATIONpoints I’m asked to review with you during the 1st class • Building Hours = M-TH 6:30am-7:30pm and Fri 6:30am-6:30pm – Studentaccess to 5th and 6th floors is limited to these hours. If you come in early, please go into the Cafeteria on the first floor. Do not eat in the 1st floor lobby area. • Dress Code - Areas of emphasis: no shorts, stir-up pants, leggings, flip flops, sweat pants/sweat suits, acrylic nails, facial piercings, tattoos, and hair color must be natural. Dress code is applicable whenever on campus – even if you do not have classes. • Eating & Drinking - No food in the classrooms. Must be placed into the cubicle. Drinks are allowed but must have a lid (e.g., no open coke cans). No potlucks allowed. • Notification Process (e.g., for YOUR absences, lateness) – notify instructor first; if you cannot reach instructor, then notify the academic dean ( Dr. Moreland at 214-453-5227). • Remediation –Any student that makes below 75% in this class must go into remediation. Tutoring & remediation scheduled on a case-by-case basis. • Communication with Instructor = WCU email only –NO texting!

DAY 1 – POINTS OF INFORMATIONpoints I’m asked to review with you during the 1st class • Emergency Procedures – • Lockout (may exit) and Lockdown (hide). • Tornado: evacuate to the stairwells. • Fire: evacuate to stairwells and out toward the backside of the building. • Earthquakes: Get away from windows. Cover your head with hands and hide under a desk or stand in doorway. Avoid elevators. • Inclement Weather Notification – see attachment/handout . Check the approved news outlets before leaving in the morning and check your emails. I will email the class once a decision has been made regarding closing/late starts. • Elevator Protocol – always let people exit before entering/be courteous; advice security or campus administration if you see a suspicious person on campus. • Classroom Doors – Use the entrance door – exit will remain locked. • Smoking Area – underground designated area only. Note: Electronic cigarettes are not allowed in the building.

Be cognizant of your hallway discussions because it echoes and can be overheard. • Course Syllabus – posted in Blackboard, it is YOUR responsibility to review the syllabus regularly. You MUST take the Syllabus Acknowledgment “test” in Blackboard in order to access information for the course. We will review the syllabus in detail today (the first day of class). • Papercut – are you familiar with the student printing solution on campus? • WCU grading system and attendance policy – Please see the grading scale in the syllabus. Students are allowed to miss up to 30% of class time (13.5hrs for a 45-hour course). If you exceed that limit, you will receive a grade of “F” in the course. Formal documentation of extenuating circumstances is required for make-ups (e.g., quizzes, assignments). • Academic Integrity Safeguards - You cannot use your work from a previous course for the assignments in this course. It is self-plagiarism.

If questions still remain → Dean of Academic Affairs→ Executive Director. • Withdrawal from classes –Last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” grade is Friday of the 5th week. Withdrawals after Week 5 will result in an “WF” grade. • BYOD policy for THIS class. (cell phones, tablets, laptops –acceptable use) • Tips for success! • Read materials, prepare for, and ENGAGE IN Discussions. • Submit all assignments on time. • Don’t miss any class. Arrive early. • Mandatory Computer Proficiency Exam – All new students must complete the exam. If you haven’t signed up, please see Ms. Claudia Leal or Dr. Moreland. • Study Rooms - Reservations can be made through Student Services. • Always wear name badges, and encourage the same from your peers.
