Explore Galatians 5:1-16 to discover how faith in Christ leads to true righteousness, contrasting the law with the Holy Spirit's guidance toward humility and selflessness.
E N D
Context: Paul has taken 4 chapters to explain how trying our best to keep the law will never work to accomplish a holy life (refuting false teachers in Galatia), as he concludes his argument the topic has to shift.
(1-4) Being right with God is only available by faith in Christ alone. • Not by fulfilling anypart of the law. • Not by trying to fulfill the law after trusting in Jesus.
(5-6) The Law can only diagnose the presence of sin, it can never fully heal it.
(13-15) The Law ultimately leads to pride and comparison, checking other’s conduct by way of In vs Out.
(16-18) The sin nature remains, but the Holy Spirit of God Himself has been given to You, so follow Him!
19-23) Our Sin Nature and the Holy Spirit lead opposite directions!
(24-26) The HolySpirit leads us to the end of ourselves as we find our real life in Jesus; when we live out of Hislife we take no pride in righteousness that came by faith and we don’t focus on other’s shortcomings either.
Conclusion: Sometimes we convince ourselves that this or that desire isn’t all that bad, but the Scripture says here that to live and walk by the Holy Spirit is to nail all of our desires to the cross of Jesus Christ. When was the last time we asked God if there was anything we needed to nail there?
