Sverigeslantbruksuniversitet Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences How things change for PhD students/Supervisors • Universal minimum rules in a single document, faculty rules may require more. • New rules are agreed on as a good compromise with student input. • Process of how to handle problems while protecting the rights of the PhD student and providing a path to correct issues and successfully continue studies. Sverigeslantbruksuniversitet Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences • New Individual Study Plan – Commitment part: • Guidance from supervisors, directors of studies and fellow PhD students is needed to ensure new students understand the importance of this section. • Student expectations need to be realistic and fair. • PhD students need to pay especially close attention to this portion. Sverigeslantbruksuniversitet Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences • Encourage Student participation • Higher participation spreads the responsibility reducing the load on involved students • Student involvement improves the reputation of SLU • Improves “generic skills” for more successful graduates, and a more successful SLU • Your students can become future collaborators and colleagues, their success can become your success if they have the right tools.
