  3. Valentine’stradictions. • Almost permanent part of Valentine'sDay isgiving the notes. Red, the most heart-shaped Valentine's Day bears,poems, and often a love confession. Connected with the feast isthe custom of giving a partner a Valentine gift of flowers, candy or plush mascots.

Criticismof Valentine'sDay. • Some Polish people criticize Valentine's Day as a sign of Americanization, alien to Polish culture and displacing native traditions.Valentinesare also criticized for their commercial and consumerist attitude. They are used by business and the media to break the stagnation of trade between Christmas and Easter.

  5. Historycelebration. • Valentine's Day is celebrated in southern and western Europe from the Middle Ages. Northern and Eastern Europe joined the group much later. The prototype was the ancient Roman feast of Valentine's Day: Luperkalia.
