The Gates Center faculty lunch on January 19, 2005, addressed key details regarding the proposed SCS building. Attendees, including the SCS Building Committee led by Guy Blelloch, discussed location, size, and massing of the building, which is projected to be 200-220K gross square feet. Goals included creating an SCS quad with green space and ensuring easy access to nearby structures. The final architect selection is expected soon, followed by schematic design and construction documentation. Input from all faculty is encouraged throughout this planning phase.

Looks like the building will be 200-220K Gross Square Feet (GSF) • Original Proposal = 150K • Wean Hall = 290K (We have about ½) • NSH = 155K • With 220K we would still have to keep about 30K of Wean Hall. With 150K we would have to keep about 100K. Note: Assignable Square Feet (ASF) = .6 GSF
Exactly what parts of SCS move into the new building has not yet been decided
