  1. LifeWay’s New Urban Curriculum

  2. YOU is a curriculum specifically designed to meet the needs of urban/multicultural churches. • Any church can use YOU. • Released Fall 2008 • Follows a modified version of the KNOWN outlines (adults/students can study the same topics) • Relevant topics minus sugarcoating

  3. Staying Spiritually Fit • This is a process-driven curriculum. • YOU intentionally incorporates the LifeWay adult Connect, Grow, Serve, Go strategy. • An explanation of the CGSG process appears each quarter (see p. 3).

  4. Suggested Resources • Each quarter, a list of discipleship resources that correspond to the units of study will be provided (see p.7). • Aids the minister of education, superintendent, or Sunday School director in easily providing a comprehensive ministry of Christian education

  5. Table of Contents • YOU has a simple and easy-to-understand table of contents (pp.4-5) that visually portrays how each lesson fits into each unit, and how each unit fits into the CGSG strategy

  6. Each lesson begins with printed Scripture that is reader friendly (HCSB) Key Words help learners dig deeper into the text The Lesson Question and Lesson Point guide the lesson Scripture Page

  8. Lesson Overview • Emphasizes the lesson title and provides a color band to indicate the CGSG category (p. 12) • Undated, so YOU can be used on whatever date you choose • Repeats the question that guides the lesson • Outlines the focal passage

  9. Lesson • Interactive lesson for leaders and learners (built-in Bible study and personal reflection questions) • Encourages active participation in the learning process

  10. Did You Know? Highlights little known facts to help users contextualize the Scripture and understand the lesson better (p. 14)

  11. Digging Deeper • Provides an option for those desiring deeper understanding of selected topics/words (p. 13) • Includes some information and allows users to search the Scriptures on their own

  12. So What? • Emphasizes life application (p. 15) • Challenges users to connect the lesson to real life

  13. Daily Readings • Four included for each week of study • The first two review the previous lesson • The second two prepare learners for the next lesson (p. 16)

  14. This Is My Story • Shares the real stories of real people and their real spiritual victories (p. 53) • Connects real experiences to spiritual principles taught in the lessons • Helps readers connect the lessons to real life

  15. Missions Articles • Creates awareness of the work of churches and missionaries at home and abroad (p. 79) • Challenges learners to consider and obey God’s calling for them to serve • Reinforces principles taught in the lessons

  16. Before You Teach • Provides steps for preparing an interesting, interactive, and transformational learning experience (p. 102) • Equips teachers with more than just what to teach • Describes how to prepare a lesson to meet students where they are.

  17. Object Lesson • Provides an option for teaching as Jesus taught with common objects (p.102) • A great teaching idea or discussion starter for reaching all learners

  18. Teaching Plan • Take-along Teaching Plan (pp. 103-104) • Structured enough to give direction • Flexible enough for teachers to adapt their lessons to their learners

  19. Connecting the Text to YOU Provides practical life application ideas and questions (p. 104)

  20. Commentary • Designed especially for teachers (p. 105) • Provides more information about the lesson text without being overwhelming
