  1. Preparation of The Body SWIMMING How + Why you collected data

  2. What are you training for? • To improve your 100m front crawl (time) • You will do this by implementing (and planning) a swimming fitness training programme • You will also complete all of your NAB during this block – stage 1 is next Thursday…

  3. FULL SESSION 1 LANE 1 TOTAL : 1050m

  4. Test’s that you carried out (will carry out) • 100m FC at RACE PACE (within the activity) • T5 Endurance Test (outwith activity) • Stroke Efficiency Test (outwith activity) • Sport Competitive Anxiety Test (SCAT) (outwith activity) – to do as Homework tonight – Google search for “Brian Mac SCAT test” • RECORD (evidence) your SCAT score and what it means in P24 of your course notes

  5. Gathering data out with the activity Sport Competition Anxiety Test (standard test) Brian Mac.com Focused measurement of Anxiety • I completed an online questionnaire to decide if I "Rarely", "Sometimes" or "Often" feel this way when competing in my sport, answering questions like: • Before I compete I feel uneasy • Before I compete I worry about not performing well SCAT score will range from a low of 10 to a high of 30 where 10 indicates a low level of anxiety and 30 a high level of anxiety (stressed).

  6. Describe HOW you did the… • 100m FC RACE PACE test? • T5 Endurance test? • Stroke Efficiency test?

  7. Gathering data within the activity • I swam 100m front crawl at race pace • 4 observers watched and collected data as follows: • 1 timed each 25m split and total time • 1 counted how many arm strokes taken per 25m • 1 counted how many breaths taken per 25m • 1 assessed skill related fitness & recorded all data onto an observation sheet

  8. Gathering data out with the activity T5 Swim (devised test) Focused measurement of Cardio Respiratory Endurance • I swam as far as I could at a constant pace for 5 mins • 2 observers watched and collected data as follows: • 1 timed each 25m split to confirm even aerobic pace • 1 recorded all data onto a recording sheet • At the end of the test I calculated my base aerobic capacity (base speed) using speed = time over distance formula.

  9. Gathering data out with the activity Stroke efficiency (standard test) Emmet Hines(P20 course notes) Focused measurement of Coodination / Control My arm span was measured to calculate expected strokes per 25m (Hines) I could then calculate my stroke efficiency by comparing this to strokes taken in my 100m front crawl each 25m as suggested by Emmet Hines Stroke efficiency = expected stokes x 100 / actual strokes taken

  10. Homework – 2 questions on WIKI (Monday) • 1 = Describe HOW you: - carried out one test from WITHIN the activity - carried out two tests OUTWITH the activity • 2 = Describe WHY you did the 100m FC RACE PACE test (refer to course notes)

  11. Test scores • Remember: • Test score shows how you COULD perform in the exam • History shows pupils with high scores in test can do better/worse • Your practical grade has been calculated from activities you have done so far – this grade may improve • The % estimate treble’s the score you got in your test – you will score differently in each area in the SQA exam • The NAB is pass or fail
