  1. Twin Disc March 2010 Meeting EscoDiegem : EscoView

  2. Esco Drives & Automation part of the Efeco group

  3. Product portfolio of Esco Drives & Automation 5 main groups of products are marketed by the company : • Inverters and soft-starters • Motion products : servo-motors, position control, • Linear guides, precision reducers • Automation products : PLC and HMI • Motors and sensors : AC & DC motors, high speed motors, encoders

  4. Product portfolio of Esco Power Mainly, marine and industrial gear couplings… • Twindisk gear couplings • EC300 controllers • Power commanders

  5. First step of the story : march 2008 • Breakfast meeting on saterday morning with some Esco Power customers… • Targets… : • Show new marine gear solutions • Show a system based on Exor HMIs to supervise the marine gear… • Solution finally rejected because…. • Too slow • not Rina certified • No standard « industrial » signals CP10G + SCM11C + UIM05 CP10G + SCM11C + UIM05 UniNET ETH Marine Gear Nr 1 I/Os Marine Gear Nr 2 I/Os

  6. First step of the story : march 2008 Question from someone from Eneria, Caterpillar dealer in Belgium, present at this meeting : ARE YOU J1919 COMPATIBLE ? Our answer was… What is J1939 ??? SAE - J1939 is a CANopen based international protocol developped initially for trucks and other vehicules… It gives possibility for the different parts of the vehicule (engine, transmission, instruments, ...) to exchange data.

  7. 2nd step of the story : contacts with Eneria Eneria provides to ship builders a wide range of marine engines On some ships, up to two engines can be used… Often, engine is connected to Esco Power Twindisk gear coupling…

  8. 2nd step of the story : contacts with Eneria These engines can be equipped with an Electronic Control Module (ECM) collecting information from different sensors and providing these information to peripheral devices like displays, protocol gateway, … using a CAN based J1939 protocol… J1939

  9. 2nd step of the story : contacts with Eneria Twindisk marine gear and accessories can also be controlled by an ECM (EC300) communicating with J1939 protocol… J1939

  10. 3th step of the story : Our Development We have made PLC software to decode CAN J939 communication … We received from Eneria a lot of documents describing the J1939 protocol… CoDeSys Decoding program J1939 spec Description of the protocole used by CAT… J1939 spec Where is located the infomation, how is it coded… J1939 spec Description of the protocole used by CAT…

  11. 3th step of the story : Our Development • TagDictionnary- Speed_rpm • OilTemperature_1_Celsius • OilPressure_Kpa • CoolantTemperature_Celsius • TurboBoostPressure_Kpa • ActualTorque_Percent • …. EngineSpeed = xxxx Oil Temperature = xxxx Oil Pressure = xxxx Coolant Temperature = xxx Turbo Pressure = xxx Engine Load = xxx Alarm1 status = x Alarm2 status = x …. CANopen J1939 011010011110001010… CoDeSys Esco J1939 routine… • Locale I/O control • UIM05P inputs • UIM05P outputs • UIM05P analog inputs • TagDictionnary- Engine_Start • Engine_Stop • Engine_Runs • Buzzer_Alarm • WaterLevelTooLow • …

  17. The product : eTop 49 CP The eTOP49CP is a state-of-the-art HMI device featuring a high-brightness sunlight-readable 12.1” TFT colour display with SVGA (800x600) resolution and resistive touch screen. This product has been specifically designed for use under extreme illumination conditions. Support for 64K colours in the brilliant TFT display will increase the realism of the images. Connectivity is ensured by the integrated 10/100 Ethernet interface and the dual-module option. The coated electronics and the extended operating temperature range make this product ideal for applications in harsh environments.

  18. The product : eTop 49 CP CE and Marine certification The panel EscoVieweTop 049 CP has been designed for installation in an industrial environ in compliance with the regulations: - Emitted interference EN 61000-6-4 - Noise Immunity EN 61000-6-2 In compliance with the above regulations the products are CE marked. For marine applications, this panel has been approved by Rina and Germanischer Lloyds

  19. The product : eTop 49 CP Provides solutions … Developed in collaboration with marine partners and customers, based on industrial standards and approved by renowned classification societies for maritime environment, our products provide you with a human machine interface for an easy and efficient crew-to-vessel connection.

  20. The product : eTop 49 CP For information and action … At sea, there’s no room for errors. A single mistake can have consequences for ship, cargo, passengers and crew. That’s why you need precise and up-dated information to help you to make the right decision in a short time.

  21. The product : eTop 49 CP In real time … A ship’s crew needs immediate information in order to avoid or minimize danger. The availability of fast and real time information is essential.

  22. The product : eTop 49 CP With reliable equipment Maritime conditions place great demands on electronic equipment. High quality equipment with outstanding reliability is needed for a seafaring environment.

  23. ONE of the first projects : ... The Magnum... • Magnum in some figures… • Canal Boat • Lenght : about 110m • Width : 11.40m • Engine : Cummins 1600 HP V12 50L • Transported load : 3500 T 90 containers ( equivalent of 90 trucks !)

  24. The Magnum... Cummins « Electronic » engine with J1939 compatibility Some differences against CAT engines mainly for alarms… but the initial development stays valid !
