  1. MAGNIFICENT MALAYSIA A member of our team was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to visit the stunning islands of Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia, two destinations that are both unique in their own way. Read on to find out about his experience and hotel recommendations. Langkawi - Overview Located by the Andaman Sea amongst an archipelago of beautiful islands is the luxurious island of Langkawi. I visited Malaysia in September which is during the country’s rainy season, however, despite some downpours, temperatures were still warm and pleasant. Malaysia Airlines flies twice daily direct to Kuala Lumpur from London Heathrow, offering frequent connections onto Langkawi. The approximate flight time of 12 ½ - 13 hours can be quite tiring, therefore, it is advisable to break up the journey with a short stopover in Kuala Lumpur – that way you can do some sightseeing and experience another epic Malaysian destination.

  2. The Danna Langkawi My first night in Langkawi was spent at the five-star Danna Langkawi. This deluxe hotel provides a modern-colonial contrast to guests whom are also greeted with a heartfelt and hospitable Malaysian welcome. Guests are spoilt for choice with the various restaurants providing a mix of Asian and Italian cuisine, as well as a cigar room and wine cellar. In addition to the 114 rooms and six suites on offer, there are 10 private villas equipped with infinity pools, in-room breakfast and a personal Villa Host. You can book an excellent holiday package to The Danna Langkawi with us at Brightsun. Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi Just a short drive from Langkawi International Airport is the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort. The spacious rooms offered at this hotel are set in double-storey chalets scattered across 14-hectares. In addition to its stunning location on Cenang Beach, the resort’s various recreational facilities make it a perfect destination for families including a holistic spa, water sports, two outdoor pools including a children’s pool with waterfalls and many fun outdoor adventures such as mini golf and archery.

  3. Penang - Overview Malaysia’s second smallest state is split across two areas; Penang Island and Seberang Perai on the Malay Peninsula. I had the pleasure of touring the scenic Penang Island after a short domestic flight from Langkawi, which offered similar weather conditions. Penang Island is an urban shopping paradise with plenty of scenic sights. Its capital city Georgetown is renowned as the food capital of Malaysia, attracting thousands of visitors to sample the famous variety of Malay street food. On a clear day, a visit to Penang Hill is worth a trip, where you can take a cable car to stroll through the botanical gardens and viewpoints of the island. Lexis Suites, Penang Lexis Suites Penang is a luxury hotel located in the south of Penang Island, just a short drive away from the airport. This hotel is also set a short distance away from the main shopping complexes on the island. As well as a convenient location, another fantastic unique selling point of this hotel is that each of its spacious 222 suites has its own private steam room and swimming pool. In addition, Lexis Suites Penang boasts a range of dining options including an authentic Japanese restaurant and a roof-top bar offering stunning views across Penang Island.

  4. Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang Step back in time when you visit the grand Eastern & Oriental Hotel, located in the heart of Georgetown. The hotel which has been operating since 1885 was founded by the famous Sarkies Brothers, whom also founded the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The rooms here are scattered across two wings, each displaying British colonial heritage decor as well as spectacular views over the Andaman Sea. The E&O Hotel was also featured in the filming of the Channel 4 drama Indian Summers. Shangri - La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang Batu Ferringhi is a popular beach resort on Penang Island, home to a wide selection of luxury hotel chains. A popular accommodation choice is Shangri - La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa. Here you can treat yourself to a relaxing massage in one of 11 deluxe Spa Villas or enjoy a round of golf at the resort’s Par 3 golf course. While there are many restaurants within the local area in Batu Ferringhi, the resort boasts three affordable and delicious dining options including the Feringgi Grill, featuring modern grill dishes and vintage wines.

  5. Holiday Inn Resort Penang Another great accommodation option at Batu Ferringhi is the Holiday Inn Resort. This minimalistic, family-orientated resort stretches across two towers, providing comfortable accommodation and generous leisure facilities for the whole family to enjoy, such as a swimming pool, kid’s club, resort centre complete with table games and games consoles and a relaxing spa centre featuring a kid’s spa. At the hotel’s Hari’s Bar you can enjoy refreshing cocktails with stunning views over Batu Ferringhi and enjoy direct beach access.
