Determining Need for New Employee • Determine how many people needed to open, how many for expansion • Forecast employee turnover and effects of new technologies or economic conditions • Vacancy Procedures • Try to hire from within organization • Check employee records ( length of service, training, education, performance evaluations) • If no luck, hire from outside organization

  3. Looking For Right Employees • Advertise through media sources • Recruit at schools • Post at HRDC • Post online ( recruiting site, company website) • Co-Op Programs • Headhunters • Employee referral programs • Look at recent applicants

Application Process and Interviews • HR Department review applications and screens for potential applicants • Hiring managers interview potential applicants • Interview performances and notes are reviewed, references are contacted, and a decision is made. • Job Training • Orientation provides training for hired jobs • Topics covered: policies, equipment, additional training

  5. Keeping Good Employees • High Turnover creates costly problems (employees less productive when learning a new job) • Offer of perks to keep people on board ( dress code, child care, fitness programs)
