  1. HDR INtroduction Bradford STS for GP

  2. Principles • HDR more about skills and attitudes than knowledge • Mixture of methods to suit different learning styles • Maximise opportunities for group learning and support • Some sessions in year groups (starting Mar 29, after CSA results)

  3. Attendance –what’s expected • Different for hospital and GP posts • Hospital posts – expected to attend the equivalent of 70% of HDR attendance, made up of HDR and modular sessions (comes to 16 half days or 56 hours) • GP posts – expected to attend every week unless on approved leave – likely to add up to about 80% • You must attach a record of HDR attendance to your EP • Sofya records attendance and will email you about your record

  4. Do you know anyone on a low wage? – someone in your family, a friend or someone you were at school with?Keep them in your mind …

  5. GP posts and attendance • HDR attendance is part of your paid job • The lowest paid ST1 GP trainee gets about £83 for a Tuesday afternoon – many get more • A low paid worker would take 14 hours (nearly 2 days) to earn that • Your wage is paid from their taxes • How would your low paid person feel about this? • If you want to do another educational activity instead of coming to HDR, discuss it with TPD • If you’ve made an appt with the plumber, you should take ½ day’s annual leave • You are not a student in a ‘placement’ – you are an employee doing a job

  6. Attendance and GP competencies • Working with colleagues and in teams – what does your non attendance mean to your teachers and to your fellow group members? Bunking off is rude. • Maintaining performance, learning and teaching – are you quite sure that the session you miss is of no educational value to you, and/or doesn’t offer an opportunity to learn about teaching others? Bunking off is short-sighted. • Fitness to practise – attendance is part of your contract. Bunking off is dishonest.
