  1. Welcome to the 2nd ISU SEA Member Meeting

Important Dates Social Dates • Library Social (1 credit)- Wednesday, October 9th- 7-9pm on the third floor of Milner Library – Must check in and out for social credit • ISU-UIUC Fall Conference (2 credits) –Saturday, October 12th • Double Feature Friday (1 credit)- Friday, October 18th- Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University- 7pm and 9pm- $1 in Braden Auditorium • Career Center Hiring and Interviewing (No credit)- Monday, November 4th- 12-1:15 Hiring Tips; 1:30- 2:45 – Interview Tips; This is will in the Student Services Building room 375 Volunteer Dates • Canned Food Drive- Bring canned foods to designated SEA events up until our November meeting starting at the library social. Two cans will give you one hour of volunteer credit with a limit of 2 hours, but bring as many cans as you can. Donations will be taken until Monday, November 4th

ISU and UIUC Fall Conference • Date: Saturday, October 12th at U of I- 9:30AM-2:45PM • Location: The Illini Union Building in Champaign, IL • Cost: $10-SEA Members, $15-Non-Members • Includes lunch, 3 breakout sessions, a keynote speaker, a bus to U of I, and many raffles and giveaways • You will receive 3 hour of professional development and 2 social credits • Register here by October 7th at Midnight- If not registered by then you must register at the door • More information here

  4. Sail Away with IEA SPIEASP Fall Conference (3 social credits) • Date: November 22nd-23rd • Location: Hilton Hotel in Lisle, Illinois • Save $20 before October 22nd • Save $10 before November 4th • Register here before November 15th

  7. A Better Illinois Campaign- Ben Matthews • Ben Matthews is an IEA employee and serves as the Region 14 (Unit 5 and Bloomington District 87) UniServ Director. A UniServ Director works with the teachers on their contracts and makes sure that everything is fair for them. He is the IEA resource for active teachers in Region 14.

Professionalism- Jay Percell • Jay Percell is an Instructional Assistant Professor here at ISU, since 2010.  He mainly teach two courses, TCH 212 Issues in Secondary Education and TCH 214 Content Area Literacy in Secondary Education.  He is also currently working on his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, and he will begin my dissertation this coming fall. Before moving to Illinois, he taught high school English for 10 years - mainly in Colorado and Arizona.  He also taught some elective courses such as Theatre, Journalism, and Film, as well as coached baseball and soccer.Before that, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer on the island of St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean for two years, teaching (what we would call) 9th grade.He has a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor's of Arts in English from the University of Northern Colorado.He has been married for 8 years to his lovely wife, Renee, and they have two boys, Micah (3) and Ezra James (6 months).
