  1. P3 Arborloo Plastic Base Development Engineering Requirements Purpose Design a low cost, plastic, portable, easily constructed, modern looking, and safe to use arborloo base to be used in rural Haiti. P14415 ANSYS Analysis Summary Function The arborloo is a simple latrine built over a small pit, which when filled is then moved to a new pit location. The old, filled pit then has vegetation planted on top of it, such as a fruit tree. (Pictured Left to Right) Faculty Advisors: Sarah A. Brownell Dr. Brian Thorn Sponsor: EPA P3 Award John Wilson Patrick Morabito Nathan Conklin Michael Coffey Samuel Svintozelsky (ME) (ME) (ISE) (ISE) (ME) Selected Design #1 : The Deckloo Life Cycle Analysis Deckloo Exploded View Description: 100% Recycled High-Density Polyethylene plastic lumber boards attached together by cross member supports. Includes cover attached by inner tube strips. Build and Test Selected Design #2 : The Vacloo Deckloo Vacloo Vacuum Forming Vacloo Exploded View Pre-Forming Set up Formed Part Vacloo Mold Description: Vacuum formed plastic sheet inserted over rebar support layout. Covered by High-Density Polyethylene cover and lid. Assembled product installed 2-3 inches below ground level to secure rebar. Static Load Test Static Load: 572 lbs. Deflection: < .45 in Vacloo Static Loading Deckloo Static Loading ANSYS Analysis of Rebar Layout: 270lbs load ANSYS Analysis of HDPE: 270lbs load Vacloo Prototype Von Mises Stresses (psi) Displacement (in) Von Mises Stresses (psi) Displacement (in) Deckloo Prototype Assembled Vacloo Rebar Welding Fixtures Future Recommendation Description: 100% plastic vacuum formed arborloo base. Modifications: - Remove rebar - Add additional rib structures Benefits: - Reduced cost - Improved strength - Fewer components - Faster production Deckloo Assembly Fixture Assembled Deckloo Special Thanks to: Rick Auburn Pedro Cruz Kevin Gebo ME Machine Shop Staff Jeff Smith - Faro Industries Find out more at: edge.rit.edu/edge/P14415/public/Home
