Recap of Expense Controls • Turning off ovens and other equipment when not in use • Case cleaning on a monthly schedule • Floor crews – time, equipment, materials • Eliminating trash liners in offices • Bag controls – save one bag per customer results in $80,000 a year in savings • Turn down thermostat 2 degrees = 20% savings • Keep doors closed • Vendor invoices • Repairs and maintenance – consolidate repair trips – make sure only authorized and approved vendors are used • Reducing turnover • Using old supplies

  18. How can I Help New Employees fit in With Co-Workers • Introduce them to a few of their co-workers • Start them out with people you believe are good role models • “Buddy” them up with longtime employees, this can effect the way newcomers feel about their jobs.

What Task can I Teach or Assign That They can do Well? • They need a “Win” early! • Focus them on one task at a time and give them feedback • Find a job based on their past experiences • Show them how to do it to your standards • Once confidence and success is accomplished on a task move on to more complex tasks.

  20. What can I do to Provide them with Something Positive to Talk About That Evening? • Make it a point to see them at the end of their first day • Remember their name! • Tell them what they did well • Discuss how the first day is rough.

Environment for Retention Performance • Feedback • Provide both positive and negative • Measurement • 30 - 60 - 90 day reviews • Document how they are doing • Recognition • If they meet the standards and maintain them give them recognition...pay...pat on the back.... • Starting an employee out right saves you time, money and improves morale. It’s a WIN / WIN for everyone.
