  1. Tell Us How to save time and money Service/College name Date

  2. What is ‘Tell Us’? • Tell Us is the university’s staff suggestion scheme, which aims to gather ideas from staff about how to work more efficiently • We are looking for ideas that will save money or time, and cover more than just one area of work. • All ideas are welcome, however small they seem. We are aiming to save half a million pounds from the ideas we get, and every idea helps. • Ideas will be considered against three questions: • Will they save time and/or money? • Are the potential benefits greater than the costs of putting them into practice? • Are all the potential outcomes in the best long-term interests of the University?

  3. Examples of ideas already received... • Audit -80c fridges in labs each year as they cost £900pa each to run, and sometimes contents are not needed anymore • Make expenses procedure more efficient for staff and finance- a more trust-based approach, but with an audit? • System to allow library books/journals to be transported between sites via internal mail, so staff don’t have to pick them up! • Install sensor taps and waterless urinals to cut water use and cost over time.

  4. What one thing would you change that could save time and money? • No matter how efficient we are, there are always processes that could be improved to benefit students or colleagues, and even to make our own lives easier. • On your own, or with a colleague, think about any… • tasks that take up a lot of time/effort for little return • areas where there appears to be duplication of effort • activities you do that don’t seem to add any value • processes that you find frustrating • ….and then consider how these could be changed to save time or money.

  5. What one thing would you change that could save time and money? • Once you’ve come up with an idea, quickly record… • what the idea is • how it could save money • how it could save time for people • …. briefly feedback the ideas to the rest of the team, and then after the meeting, submit your ideas to Tell Us…

  6. How can I submit an idea? • If you have a great idea that just affects your area of work, please tell your line manager, and they will consider it. If you think your idea may be able to be applied to other areas, please tell us about it using the form provided on the website: • www.exeter.ac.uk/tellus
