  1. Transparency in meat supply chains An information system for tracking, tracing and awareness of meat (TTAM) Kassahun, A., Hartog, R.J.M., Sadowski, T., Bartram. T., Kläser, S., Scholten, H., Schillings-Schmitz, A. and A. Beulens. Igls Forum 2013, 21st Feb. 2013, Innsbruck, Austria

  2. The context of TTAM The technology platform for which TTAM aims to identify domain specific requirements Use cases The pilot study described in this presentation 1..* The use case in which the pilot study (TTAM) is done

  3. Smart Agri Food (SAF) Pilot Studies SAF From farm ... TTAM From abattoir ... ... to retail ... to fork

  5. Why TTAM?

  6. Methodology • 2: Describe current state • Case: consumers • Case: supply chain • An exemplary transparency system (fTRACE) • 1: Identify requirements • Consumer trends • Regulations (EU) • Emerging technology (FI-WARE) • 3: Design a new system • Build on the existing (fTRACE) • FI-WARE requirements • Additional generic enablers required • 4: Validate • Build a conceptual prototype • Test at a retail

  7. Requirement #1: Consumer trends Smartphones as a shopping companion = http://www.ftrace.de/ ?h=GS&i=0000000298

  8. Requirement #2: regulations (EU) Registration of bovine animals and origin of beef Reg. No. 1760/2000 General Food Law: Reg. No. 178/2002 tracking Provision food information to consumers (awareness): Reg. No. 1169/2011 NL 12.3456 EC Hygiene rules, registration and approval req. Reg. No. 853/2004 tracing Comes into force in 2014 Batch or consignment number Reg. No. 931/2011. Cow image: http://vafd.gov.mt/id_reg_bov

  9. Requirement #3: Identify relevant FI-Ware Generic Enablers (GEs) Pay-as-you-go ... use on demand Smartphone Cloud Location-based services Market place App Store, Play store Applicationmashup Single sign on Sensors Social media Big data Actuators and robotics Sematic information http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers Cloud Hosting, Data/Context Management, Internet of Things (IoT), Applications/Services Ecosystems, Security and Interface to Networks and Devices (I2ND)

  13. Design a new system – what should it improve on fTRACE

  14. Design a new system - how is works A trusted third party transparency provider EPCIS Repository NEW: transparency provider NEW: Actors provide data to transparency provider • NEW: Use GS1 Standards • Unique ID • EPC, EPCIS, events QS DB Veterinaries Laboratories HIT DB OLD: Proprietary protocols 110000 Transparency App tracking EPCIS Repository EPCIS Repository EPCIS Repository EPCIS Repository FMS weak links & Interop. 17. Summary • Current transparency systems: • Loss of transparency information • If any solution – then it is supply chain specific • Transparency data managed by the focal company • Depends heavily on labelling (lack of digitization) • Next generation transparency systems: • Transparency provided by third party transparency provider (3pTSP) • 3pTSP provides transparency tools (Apps, Repository) • Transparency based on global standards and GEs (among other GS1 standards and FI-WARE GEs)
