  2. Staffing • Staffing is most important managerial function described by Luther Gulick in POSDCORB. • Staffing is concerned with effective requirement, selection, placement, performance appraisal and development of staff members etc.

  3. Staffing Pattern for Library • Advisory committee • Dr. S. R. Ranganathan

  4. Advisory Committee • State Central Library: 1 Librarian, 1 Dept. Librarian, 1 Asst. Librarian, 22 Professionals. • District Library: 1 Librarian, 1 Asst. librarian, 3 professional Asst. and 9 other Non-Prof. personnel's • City Library: 1 Librarian, 1 Dept. Librarian (Population less than 8 lakh), 1 Asst. librarian, Prof. Asst. minimum 2 and maximum 18 ( according to population). • City Branch Library: 1 Librarian, 2 Prof. Asst. and 5 Non-Prof. • Mobile Library: 2 Prof. Asst. and 3 other personnel. • Block Library: 1 Librarian and 2 Personnel.

  5. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan • Acquisition Section: 1 Person for every 6000 vol. add in a year. • Periodical Section: 1 Person for every 1000 periodical currently taken. • Technical Section: 1 Person for every 2000 vol. add in a year. • Maintenance Section: 1 Person for every 6000 vol. add in a year and 1 Person for every 50000 vol. in the library. • Publicity Section: Minimum 1 artist • Administrative Section: Minimum 2 Library Accountant, 1 Steno-typist and 1 correspondence clerk. • Reference Section: 1 Person on 50 readers using library in 1 day. • Circulation Section: 1 Person for every 1500 hours in a year. • Supervisory Section: 1 Librarian and 1 Dept. Librarian.
