  1. Our Mission Statement: United Way of South Hampton Roads provides leadership that brings resources together to reduce poverty, increase educational attainment and minimize health disparities for our most vulnerable neighbors.

  2. With your help, we meet the needs of our community by focusing on - Education, Financial Stability, and Health The building blocks for a good quality of life.

  3. If you could keep the child next door from dropping out of school, would you?

  4. Education Helping Children & Youth Reach Their Potential Last year we provided $850,000 in preschool care, coached parents on the best way to teach their children to read and gave 28,000 books to low income children through Raising a Reader®. We also provided almost $2 million in funding to local youth programs.

  5. If you could feed a hungry family, would you?

  6. Financial Stability Promoting Financial Stability and Ending Homelessness Working with our partners We stabilize people in crisis with emergency food, safe shelter and housing services. We work with an array of organizations and volunteers to provide financial mentoring to those at risk.

  7. If you could ensure a senior citizen receives the medication they need, but can’t afford, would you?

  8. Health Making a difference for those who need it most United Way and our partners focus on providing services for those least able to access care on their own. Through the benefits of the FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount cards, local residents have saved $3.4 Million on the cost of their medications. Our most recent work includes providing dental care to those in critical need. Last year health, elderly and disability services received over $1.5 million.

  9. You can. Or rather, WE can. United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems. Living united means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future.

  10. Once a year United Way asks businesses and individuals to show they are committed to those who live and work right here in our community by contributing to the United Way Campaign.

  11. Join with your neighbors to change our local community.
