About the Event Itself Chongqing Tianyuan Chemical Industry Plant, headquartered in Chongqing Jiangbei District, experienced chlorine leak in the evening of April 15, and partial explosion in the early morning of April 16.   7. About the Chlorine Leakage At room temperature, chlorine is a pale yellow-green, highly toxic gas with a pungent odor. Chlorine has high chemical activity, and can react with a variety of chemical substances and organisms. Chlorine can be liquefied under certain pressure to reduce the storage footprint.
