  2. The Golden quill finale • Descriptive Winner: • Sci-Fi Adventure Winner: • Character Sketch Winner: • Who will be the CHAMP??

  3. TASK: process • Select to write a character sketch, sci-fi action, or a descriptive piece. • Write it as a short story with a distinctive point of view.

  4. Character Sketch • Focus on one character like “The Veldt” or “The Pedestrian” • Choose a rule that this character lives by; it may be one he has chosen for himself or one that has been imposed upon him • Choose a distinctive point to view • Decide if the character is a rule follower, rule maker, rule breaker, or a combination • Have a clearly identified man vs self conflict (may include other conflicts)

  5. Descriptive piece • Focus on a specific location and time period “Fog Horn” “Rains” • Describe an unexpected event that causes devastation, mayhem, or chaos • Focus on a world without humans • Examine the footprints, heartprints, or fingerprints those humans would leave behind

  6. Sci-fi action • Focus on plot structure with a combination of 2 conflicts, typically man vs. machine and man vs. man (You may create any combination but not more than 2 conflicts) • Select reasonable effects or outcomes of the conflicts • Use a plot line structure like “One Who Waits” “All in a Day”

  7. In-class contest • Write your story: Prewriting Notes/Sketches: 1.17-1.23.14 • Creative Interpretive Readings: 2.12.14-2.13.14 • Final BATTLE of the BEST: 2.14.14 • Format: Choice: audiotape; typed paper; PowerPoint; movie • LIMIT STORY TO 2,500 words!!
