  • World’s largest literacy organization using volunteer tutors.
  • 1,100 affiliates throughout the US
  • 70 partner programs in 39 developing countries
  • Publisher of 500 titles of adult educational material for 46,000 organizations worldwide.

WHAT WE DO
  • Train volunteers to tutor English[listening, speaking, reading, writing, math and computer skills]
  • Match student and tutor and provide on-going support.
  • Maintain library of teaching materials to lend or sell.

WHO WE CURRENTLY SERVE
  • 75 volunteer tutors
  • 185 adult clients
    • 90 % ESL students
    • 10 % functionally illiterate adults

HOW WE DO IT
  • Most teach one-to-one; a few small classes.
  • Students are carefully matched with tutors.
  • Tutors and students arrange for space and time.
  • Twice weekly class is best with 1.5 hour session.
  • Scheduling is flexible.
  • Requested commitment 6-9 months.
