  2. Representational Art • You can tell what it is • There is an identifiable subject, object or person • Can be abstract or realistic • Abstract = you can tell what the object is, but it has been distorted in some way

Non-Representational Art • Using the Elements of Art (color, line, value, texture, shape, space, form) and the Principles of Design (emphasis, balance, movement, variety, rhythm, unity, harmony, proportion) to create an artwork • Usually expresses a feeling or an emotion rather than an object or thing • You cannot specifically tell what it is • It is NOT a person, animal, place or thing
