  2. The post-war crisis and the role of DLG Learning Outcomes All Can describe the problems facing DLG in the years after the war (E-D) Most Can explain how DLG attempted to deal with each problem (C) Some Can judge how successful DLG was in each area (B-A)

  3. Strengths and weaknesses of Britain in the early 1920s (text pg 48-9)

  4. Political winners and losers in the early 1920s (text pg 49)

  5. Why did DLG lead a coalition government? (text pg 49-50) • During the war the coalition had been seen as patriotic and effective • A government combining cross party talent would help restore normality • To stay in power, DLG had no choice – the Liberals were split and Labour refused to join a coalition

  6. Why was DLG in a weak position? (text pg 49-50) • His power rested on his former political enemies rather than his own party supporters • Wartime spirit of co-operation would not last forever • He needed to be successful • He had no strong political base of his own • The radical promises he made e.g. “homes fit for heroes”, would be hard to deliver

  7. The post-war crisis and the role of David Lloyd George. Use the information on pp.50-53 to complete the ‘problems’ diagram on A3

  8. How successfully did DLG deal with each problem? • On your A3 sheet give DLG a mark out of 10 for each section • 1/10 least successful • 10/10 most successful • Be ready to defend your score! • Which ones remained an issue after 1922?

  9. Plenary Sum up: What caused the fall of DLG in 1922? In the style of an end of match commentary! Then come and take centre stage at the front of the class
