    1. Winslow Homer 1836 to 1910 Self taught Landscape and Marine painter, Preeminent American Painter, 19th century

    4. Homer once remarked, “You will see, in the future I will live by my watercolors.” Today, 150 years later, this appears to be true. Winslow Homer is now considered a master of watercolors and one of the great painters of the sea. A naturalist painter, he is often considered one of the greatest American artists of his time. He made a significant contribution to the works of art that have recorded the beauty of Florida.

    5. Harper's sent Homer to the front lines of the American Civil War (1861 to 1865, where he sketched battle scenes and mundane camp life.

    6. This edition of Harper's marked Winslow Homer's transition from the role of lithographer at Harper's Weekly to the role of illustrator.  It is hard to imagine a more important assignment than to cover the Presidential Inauguration.  This assignment represented a major step forward in Homer’s career.
