  2. What is it? • Fish oil can be consumed either by eating fish or taking supplements • The types of fish include: • Mackerel • Tuna • Salmon • Sardines • Trout • Anchovy

  3. How effective is it? • New studies show that by taking fish oil supplement or consuming baked fish that it will: • Lower triglycerides by 20% - 50% • Prevent heart disease and heart attack • Lower high blood pressure • Osteoporosis • Improves weight loss (combined with physical activity) • Lower high cholesterol • Help lower asthma in children • And the list goes on and on!

  4. How does it work? • Most of the benefit comes from the omega 3 fatty acid fish oil contains. Once consumed the body reaps the benefits of the omega 3 fatty acids which contain the two most important ones- eicsopentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

Any safety concerns? • Fish oil is more than likely safe for everyone • Some fish, especially fish raised salmon, can be contaminated with mercury and other industrial chemicals • This is why the supplement is recommended • Some of the following might occur with taking the supplement • Belching • Bad breath • Heartburn • Nausea • Nosebleeds • Taking them with meals or freezing them might reduce these side effects

Moderate • Birth control pills might interfere with the lowering triglyceride effects of fish oil • High blood pressure pills will interact because the combination of fish oils might lower b.p. too much Minor • Medications that slow down blood clotting with the combination of fish oil may cause bleeding

Any other interactions? • Food • There are no known interactions with food • Taking herbs and supplements that slow blood clotting with fish oil might cause blood clotting • These herbs include: • Garlic • Ginger • Ginseng • And others.. • Fish oil can also lower Vitamin E levels either because it is being absorbed to quickly or not being absorbed at all

  8. What’s the proper dosage? • The proper intake differs from person to person but on average, consuming at least 4 soft gels every day. Some things come into effect like: • High blood pressure • High cholesterol • High triglycerides • Kidney problems
