Purpose To prepare for using Supporting Workplace Study and gaining maximum benefit from the resource Outcomes: You will • Identify the contexts in which you are likely to use mentoring skills • Recognise some of the ways in which the resource may enhance your mentoring skills • Trial the resource and identify effective ways of utilising it.

  3. Introduction In groups discuss: • Why you are interested in doing the module • The contexts in which you will utilise mentoring skills

  4. Potential benefits Please put your name on the postcard provided and list the three key benefits you hope to gain from completing the resource. Hand to the facilitator.

Introduction to the resource:Overall learning outcomes (1 of 3) • After studying this course you should be able to: • Identify your particular role as a professional supervisor or mentor in the context of your own profession/workplace • Understand the range of skills required for effective professional supervision or mentoring

Introduction to the resource: Overall learning outcomes (2 of 3) • Anticipate and deal with issues arising in the supervisory/mentor relationship and situation • Identify and develop good practice in respect of the supervisory/mentor relationship • Maximise the potential for effective learning in own workplace through professional supervision / mentoring

Introduction to the resource: Overall learning outcomes (3 of 3) • Plan a supervision/mentoring framework for a specific learner • Understand the potential role of professional supervision/mentoring in assessment and identify good practice in practice-based assessment • Identify your own skillset in relation to professional supervision/mentoring and develop a personal development plan for expanding or developing additional skills
