  1. COBRA VD-A Activities at TU/e, And “Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) studies for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)” M. Garcia Larrode, (Ton Koonen (a.m.j.koonen@tue.nl)) VD-A meeting UPC, Barcelona, Feb 26th, 2007

  2. VD-A activities at TU/e • Activities on RoF for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA): • IST-MUSE (Multi-Service Access Everywhere): within WPE – CWDM FWA and BMR for XL-PON (together with Heinrich-Hertz Inst. and Univ. Essex) • Other activities on RoF: • RoF for in-building broadband wireless access networks • Future Home Networks • Other activities on Optical Access Networks: • POF-ALL, Full-Service Access Networks based on MMF,… • Mode Group Division Multiplexing (MGDM) • SWOOSHING: Spectral Amplitude Encoded Optical CDMA • Freeband Broadband Photonic Access (dynamically reconfigurable WDM-PON access networks)

  3. Optical Frequency Multiplication (OFM) 38.4GHz < 100 Hz fsw = 6.4GHz • Harmonics by FM-IM conversion • Pure microwave carriers • Dispersion-tolerant in SMF and MMF links • Microwave carriers beyond the nominal bandwidth of MMF

  4. Optical Frequency Multiplication (OFM) 39.9GHz • All-Optical Up-Conversion: • low fsc to microwave fRF = n∙fsw±fsc • Transparent to the modulation format Example: 64-QAM 20MS/s @ <1.5GHz (120Mbit/s!!) 25km of SMF  39.9GHz 4.4km MMF  23.7GHz EVM < 5.6 %
